Food Stamps OK For Porn, Tatoos, Jewelry

Food Stamps should be used to buy food. Period.

Don't even bother. Massholes lost it a long long time ago. It's a pretty miserable State at this point. But hey, they just adore their Socialist/Progressive wankers. Waddayagonnado?

Food stamps is a different program from welfare, just sayin.

It is a form or welfare or entitlement.. just because multiple departments or systems run differing aspects of entitlement programs does not make them inherently different

But you are right.. I should have stated that we should not have entitlements anyway

You can be on food stamps and not on welfare, the requirements are actually quite different but I see your point. I am ok with assistance as a tool to help people but not a life style.

Agreed. For far too many? The 'Safety Net' has become a hammock.

I've said it before. If you WANT to stand on the corner all day and do nothing, then I think as Americans, you should have that right. BUT, that means that you don't get SQUAT. Where your next meal comes from is NOT MY PROBLEM. If that means you have to live under a bridge, then I hope that you have a good sleeping bag because if you DO NOTHING, then you GET NOTHING.

It really doesn't surprise me that there are some liberals out there that think that guns, tatoos, porn, lap dances, etc., should and could be paid for with an EBT card. As I grow older, I'm not really surprised by the lengths that liberals will go to keep people relying on government assistance. After all, we know that those who don't NEED the government, will not vote to make it bigger and stronger.

And a weak central government is a nightmare for those who have wet dreams in the vein of 1984...

5. Patrick allowed bans on the use of EBT cards in establishments known for the sale of seemingly controversial items — such as tattoo parlors, gun shops, casinos, cruise ships, and adult entertainment facilities —- to stand."

I'm sorry, what are you bitching about again?

Although this did surprise me, the abuse of the EBT card did not. When 1 in 7 Americans are on food stamps, you know something is wrong. The definition of the poor and needed certainly has to be reviewed and the priorities of the families have to be recognized as out of whack.

We enable irresponsible behavior by our own legislation.

Keep in mind though alot of people on food stamps are employed, its income based. If you work at a job that doesn't pay shit you qualify for food stamps, shit when I was in the service I qualified for food stamps even though I never used it.

"If you wanted him to have FOOD, you should have given him FOOD!!!!"

Many years ago, that is what I heard an old man shout at a young woman who was complaining that she had given ten dollars to a neighbor to buy food and he bought beer with it instead.

I always kept those words at the front of my mind when I started a charitible organization some years later.

If a widow needed her electric bill paid, we went to the utility company and paid the bill. If a mentally handicapped woman needed her rent paid, we went to the bank and paid her rent.

We never, ever gave anyone cash money.

The EBT card is a debit card that can be used to buy anything. You can even make a donation to Barack Obama's campaign with one.

There is another type of EBT card which can only be used for staples, but those are sold on the street for cash.

If you want them to have FOOD, then give them FOOD!!!!

There is no true poverty in the United States of America.
That is, material poverty. But there is spiritual poverty, poverty of character.
And there is a virulent political philosophy that encourages taking, rather than earning....
...pleading and demanding based on envy.

Food stamps for those who need food, and cannot provide for themselves...an old and honorable heritage in America: "On January 6, 1657 twenty-eight “Scottish men” signed the Laws Rules and Order of the Poor Boxes Society” in Boston, New England and formed the Scots’ Charitable Society."

But what the Left has made common is a blemish on the nation and the people...

1."Mass Gov. Deval Patrick Vetoes Ban On Using Welfare EBT Cards To Purchase Porn, Tattoos, Manicures Because It Would “Humiliate Poor People”…No surprise he’s a close friend of Barack Obama (Axelrod ran his first campaign for Mass governor).

2. Patrick vetoed the reforms Sunday while signing the state’s $32.5 billion budget.

3. According to the Boston Herald, which first reported the veto, the governor berated the legislature’s stab at banning the purchase of specific items like manicures, tattoos, guns, porn, body piercings, jewelry, and bail by saying the move was “political grandstanding” at a time when such reforms are already on track elsewhere.

4. “I’m not going to do anything that makes vulnerable people beg for their benefits. This notion of humiliating poor people has got to be separated from how we make a program, and frankly separated and disposed of, from how we make a program work and work well,” Patrick said,...

Exposing Liberal Lies: Deval Patrick OKs Porn, Tatoos, Jewelry with Food Stamps

We live in a time when the welfare industry needs to convinced well-meaning folks that there is a 'need.'
Rather it is a 'want.'

Consider the above when you vote.

That is interesting

What do you think we should do about it?

How about restricting the use of those cards to the essentials of living? Food, clothing, rent, etc.

How about delivering food to those who need it, and doing a health and welfare inspection at the same time?

Waste of time to fine abusers because they won't/can't pay it. Too expensive to run them through the legal system. Not issuing them at all is the only sane answer.

Indeed. Meet criterium...and after that? Your on your own. It has to cease.

Maybe make food stamps a debt you have to pay back eventually? I don't know.

Like a loan? Not sure about this...I'm on the side of Ben Franklin and the Founders by making poverty as unattractive and shameful as possible.

How many times have I said that CON$ are always on both sides of every issue depending on which way the wind blows at the time??? here is yet another example.

One day CON$ say that poverty is increasing to attack the war on poverty and the next day they say there is no poverty to attack Obama.

http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/$9-trillion-didnt-end-poverty-what-do

At the Republican National Convention this week, there was a lot of talk about money. Pay raises for firefighters. Money for Swift Boat ads. Money to rebuild Iraq, and so on. One thing the pundits and presidential candidates didn't say much about, however, is how much money has been spent fighting the "war on poverty"--$9 trillion and counting. Yes, $9 trillion.

Yet, as the Census Bureau just reported, poverty in America is up. So what do the candidates propose we do?

Individual RESPONSIBILITY is a great start.

Where do they still give stamps? Isnt it all EBT cards now.

We have signs going up in all sorts of businesses that they accept the cards..

Much of our generosity is given away as a cash benefit.

This is patently false. I have seen it. A lot of it.

If the government was not providing assistance to the poor, there would be so many of them evident that even you would not be able to avoid seeing them.

The irony is that because the government is providing assistance in the way of heat, food, and shelter that you can sit there and claim there are no poor because you don't see anyone without heat, food, or shelter!
