The account is substaintaially different. In the article that you cited, the four men refused to disembark.

After the plane was boarded, United Airlines officials told passengers that United Airlines Flight 23, bound for Los Angeles, had been cancelled. Three males traveling refused to disembark. The argument with a member of the flight crew became so heated that the crew member called airport security. But before security arrived, the men had vanished, said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

There were three in this account, not four. There is no mention of them being 'arab'. They refused to leave in this account. There is no mention of 'boxcutters' or 'Al Qaeda documents'.

Here's a news report on the matter. With all the details about 'box cutters' being from an author named Lynn Spencer. The pilot being cited doesn't mention the men being 'arab' either.

The most thorough citation of First Officer Timmons.....is this:

There's no mention of them being 'arab'. Just men. Timmons makes no mention of box cutters either. Or any connection to Al Quada. That was part of the article, citing 'investigators'.

The 'arab' part seems to have been added by the WHYY article. There's no mention of it anywhere else that I've been able to find. And no mention in Timmon's interview.

This one seems to fall in to the 'maybe' camp. The addition of the men being 'arabs' is suspicious though. There appears to be no source for it.
