The Science Channel loves to do stuff during "shark week" but in this case it wasn't just exploitation. It seems that as a result of cleaner water (and global warming?) the Great White Shark population has increased off the NY Long Island coast. A tagged young white shark caught off Montaulk Point swam within spitting distance of lifeguards at Jones Beach. A whale was killed by collision with a freighter ship inside NY harbor and the corpse showed evidence of great white predation. Interestingly enough the harbor seal population has returned to NY after more than a hundred years. Is it good news to the left or is everything bad news?
