The only way to get good help in construction is to pay people what they are worth and treat them with respect. Tradesmen can just pick up their shit and walk and be working somewhere else by the end of the day. Service industry people have to take what they can get, put up with tons of bullshit and keep their mouths shut.

The government artificially increased wages for unskilled workers. Now that the pandemic is just about over, why should their wages be increased to a higher level than their worth?

We didn't hire unless we could pay our starting wage which was $17.96 per hour around 2000. If we didn't pay that we wouldn't have found workers. We had guys on our concrete side pouring and those building the structures. Good employers have no problems finding workers. Sketchy ones struggle.
