The NSA’s bulk collection of U.S. telephone records is the “least intrusive” way to track suspected terrorists’ communications with people in the U.S., General Keith Alexander said, defending the NSA’s mass data collection and surveillance programs to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

”If we can come up with a better way, we ought to put it on the table and argue our way through it,” Alexander said. “There is no other way that we know of to connect the dots.”

It's called profiling, which is a valuable tool. Yes, young Muslim males are more likely to be a terrorist than an old lady wearing Depends or a crippled child in a wheelchair.

I don't believe it's about terrorism. The spying is about finding political enemies. That is precisely why they put people on the watch list that tend to lean toward the right, like veterans, constitutionalists, active military or Paul Rand supporters. They put them on the list, then expanded their power to spy and it's all about spying on the dissenters.

Terrorists are known to buy disposable cell phones, so find a way to listen to those instead of the phones people buy under their own names.

Or they could use reasonable red flag words, like bomb, Allah, jihad, kill, chemical weapons or other terms likely used when planning an attack.

As it is, they probably flag words like Obamacare, socialist, nanny or big government, welfare, illegal immigrant or Benghazi. They want to know who is against them.
