Exxon Mobil Corp. spent the last 40 years undermining public concern over climate change, even as its own scientists determined man-made global warming was real and a serious threat, according to Harvard University researchers writing in a peer-reviewed journal.

“Exxon Mobil contributed to advancing climate science -- by way of its scientists’ academic publications -- but promoted doubt about it in advertorials,” the Harvard researchers wrote in the journal Environmental Research Letters. “Given this discrepancy, we conclude that Exxon Mobil misled the public.”

The findings could add fuel to lawsuits brought against the world’s largest oil explorer by market value. New York’s attorney general is probing whether Exxon lied to investors and the public for almost four decades about the impact of climate change on profits. Exxon is one of the world’s largest sources of fuels responsible for climate change, producing 10 million gallons of gasoline and other fuels every hour of every day.

The researchers said Exxon has disagreed with their conclusion and said its statements on public policy and climate science “have always reflected the global understanding of the issue,” according to an opinion piece written by two of the authors and published Wednesday in the New York Times.

Exxon said it acknowledges climate change is a risk that requires action, and it dismissed the conclusions of the study, saying the researchers are looking for money.

We're destroying the planet in ways that are even worse than global warming

Humans are “eating away at our own life support systems” at a rate unseen in the past 10,000 years by degrading land and freshwater systems, emitting greenhouse gases and releasing vast amounts of agricultural chemicals into the environment, new research has found.

Two major new studies by an international team of researchers have pinpointed the key factors that ensure a livable planet for humans, with stark results.

Of nine worldwide processes that underpin life on Earth, four have exceeded “safe” levels: human-driven climate change, loss of biosphere integrity, land system change, and the high level of phosphorus and nitrogen flowing into the oceans due to fertilizer use.

Researchers spent five years identifying these core components of a planet suitable for human life, using the long-term average state of each measure to provide a baseline for the analysis.

They found that the changes of the last 60 years are unprecedented in the previous 10,000 years, a period in which the world has had a relatively stable climate and human civilization has advanced significantly.

Carbon dioxide levels, at 395.5 parts per million, are at historic highs, while loss of biosphere integrity is resulting in species becoming extinct at a rate more than 100 times faster than the previous norm.
Since 1950, urban populations have increased sevenfold, primary energy use has soared by a factor of five, while the amount of fertilizer used is now eight times higher. The amount of nitrogen entering the oceans has quadrupled.

All of these changes are shifting Earth into a “new state” that is becoming less hospitable to human life, researchers said.

“These indicators have shot up since 1950 and there are no signs they are slowing down,” said Will Steffen of the Australian National University and the Stockholm Resilience Center. Steffen is the lead author on both of the studies.

This is unacceptable! Only government gets to mislead the public!!!

Man's activities do have an effect on the planet environment.

Obviously.
How else would the mile thick ice sheet above Chicago have melted?

Nobody has done a better job of undermining public concern than greenies themselves with their thousands of manifest lies and endless tipping points

Ah....The GOOD Life!

If only they used clean energy. Maybe burning dried dung? DERP!!

We burn Clean Coal now. Why burn Dung?
AS It's a Fly Over state backup lifestyle career.
But them miners are qualified to collect it.
with other losers miner friends.

If this is too hard, back to burger flipper.

Renewable "green energy". Why not burn dung?

1. Animal dung contains important nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorous which
are needs by the crops. So animal dung can serve as good manure in agriculture.

2. Dung cakes produce a lot of smoke, causing air pollution.

3. Dung cakes have low calorific value (produce less heat per unit mass.

4. Dung cakes produce large amounts of ash as residue.

oops! Dung is worse than, clean coal. For power.
Which is still dirty coal.

So, try again! You can make it.

btw.
Why LPG is considered an ideal fuel? Sad miners can't be trained to drill 12" holes. But many burger flipper jobs are open for these stupids.

It is a repeat of the fight by oil copmanies to reject getting rid of leaded gasoline and the fight by tobacco companies to lie to the public about smoking.

A very small group of men who know of and cover up the coming deaths of millions of other people, for profit. All these people that have spent billions to delay implementation of solutions to stop and reverse Global Warming are guilty of no less than crimes against humanity. And it is still ongoing.

They need to be tortured with drilled in wood screws for life.
Put in their Leg and arm bones, then moved to a new location every
3 months. Along with family members.

Poor third worlders should burn fossil fuels instead of green fuels? Okay.
