There is a reason the sanctions will only go so far, that Europe still receives Russian oil and gas while taking cosmetic actions to show they "care"

read the whole thing, but some excerpts.
After Russia invaded, a few people demanded that Europe stop buying its natural gas, but European utilities snatched up long-term Russian contracts, and the White House said, "Our sanctions are not designed to cause any disruption to the flow of energy from Russia to the world."

Europe could have kept operating and expanded its nuclear power plants but instead, under pressure from climate activists, including Greta Thunberg, shut them down

What the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia and other Western allies must do is obvious and urgent: we must massively expand nuclear energy and oil and gas production. This will lower energy prices and reduce exposure to Russian use of energy as a weapon of war.

So basically the green movement has given Russia the power of power generation in western Europe. They bitch too much, Putin shuts off the heat.

I think Putin has Europe by the balls and everyone in power knows it. Everybody ultimately gets what they wanted, except of course for Ukraine. They got fucked, but nobody else really cares.

Speaking from a purely theoretical point of view, Putin could get away with taking all of Eastern Europe. Russia possesses thousands of thermonuclear warheads, right? All Putin need do is broadcast the same message to the world as his forces advance east: "We have nukes. You have nukes. Is Poland worth Armageddon? Is Hungary? Is Slovakia?" How much of this madness NATO would actually stand for is another question. Still, I wonder.

It doesn't work that way. But yes, to prevent extremely provocative action different from the direct attack against the USA, we need the Deterrence Type II, which is based on the Credible First Strike Capability.
"If you attack Poland - we'll attack Russia, and the potential Russian retaliation strike will be degraded (by counter-force strike, ABD, Civil Defense, ability to alleviate consequences and recuperate economy for a protracted war) to "acceptable" levels. "
Right now, in the case of the Russia-started regional [European] war, the USA could face simple dilemma: "Withdraw forces or commit murder-suicide". Empty declarations, as we see in Ukraine - can't deter Russia. We need real nuclear possibilities. To achieve them we need two things - time and money. Biden's administration prefer waste both, defending undefendable positions.

Would his generals go along with threatening aggressive nuclear war?
