Yo, One police department employee has been fired and two others are on administrative leave awaiting a final ruling on their fate in connection with a series of racist emails exchanged by city workers, he said. One of the emails compared President Obama to a chimpanzee.

There were no accounts of senior officials asking others to stop sending the emails or any indication of reports being made about inappropriate emails.

– One March 2010 email mocked African Americans through speech stereotypes, using a story involving child support. One line from the email read: “I be so glad that dis be my last child support payment! Month after month, year after year, all dose payments!”

– An April 2011 email depicted President Barack Obama as a chimpanzee.

– Meanwhile, a June 2011 email described a man seeking to obtain “welfare” for his dogs because they are “mixed in color, unemployed, last, can't speak English and have no frigging clue who their Daddies are.”

– Another email, from October 2011, included a photo of a bare-chested group of dancing women apparently in Africa, with the caption, “Michelle Obama's High School Reunion.”

– A December 2011 email included jokes that are based on offensive stereotypes about Muslims.

According to the DOJ report, each of these email exchanges involved supervisors of the Ferguson patrol and court operations.

Yo, Holder was on a witch hunt and couldn`t find anything associated with the Ferguson killing, but came up with something from 2008, and it mentions Obama, WHAT? Last I heard, this is America, and if you can`t take a little criticizing, get the HELL out of America! This only proves why the "Socialist Progressive Democrat Party" is on the way out!!! Yep, if those emails had been bashing or making fun of Bush or Christians there would have been no issue. Making fun of the maobamas or rag heads is blasphemy, not PC and will not be tolerated.

The emails sound stupid, but actions are more important. I want to know what the officers actually did to show they are racist.

I am sure if an in-depth investigation was done on Holder's email account that we'd see even worse. Holder has demonstrated that he will find fault with whites no matter what it takes. That makes him a far more dangerous individual.

If the police emails on being sent on work computers, the dept should come down on them. If they are personal, I would say they have a right to send whatever they want. You don't have to agree, but it's not against the law to be stupid.

Insults are common in all races and all groups. This is clearly a desperate move to appease his base. After all the protests and ginned up fury, Holder can't come away empty handed and was determined to find something to go after Ferguson police.

Thu, Jan 12, 2017 | The so-called “Ferguson effect” — officers backing off of policing out of fear that their actions will be questioned after the fact — has been talked about, but never really quantified. A new study suggests the effect is a reality, with three-quarters of officers surveyed saying they are hesitant to use force, even when appropriate, and are less willing to stop and question suspicious people.

The nonpartisan Pew Research Center questioned at least 8,000 officers from police departments with at least 100 officers between May 19 and Aug. 14 last year — most of it ahead of the fatal shootings of five officers in Dallas and three officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. What it found was a significant fear among police about their safety and about carrying out some of the everyday acts of policing.

It also shows a stark difference in how white and black officers view the protests that have taken place after some of the high-profile shootings of black suspects in the past several years, with black officers believing the protests are genuine acts of civil disobedience designed to hold police accountable, while white officers are more skeptical of the protesters’ motives. “White officers and black officers have very different views about where we are as a country in terms of achieving equal rights,” said Kim Parker, director of social trends research for the center.

Some of the key findings included: 86 percent of officers said that fatal encounters between blacks and police have made policing more difficult; 93 percent said they were more concerned about safety; 76 percent said they were more reluctant to use force when appropriate; 75 percent said interactions between police and blacks have become more tense; and 72 percent said they or their colleagues are more reluctant to stop and question people who seem suspicious.

In 2014, a white officer in Ferguson, Missouri, shot and killed black teen Michael Brown, setting off a movement drawing greater scrutiny of police use of force, particularly against black citizens. In the years since, other fatal encounters with police in cities such as Baltimore, Baton Rouge, Chicago, New York and Milwaukee have put officers under the microscope, especially as video has captured more of these events. There has been a concern, largely shared in anecdotes, of officers holding back on stopping suspicious people or other policing out of concern that they would be cast as racist.

However, the Pew survey provides the first national evidence that those concerns might be having a real impact on how officers do their jobs. “Officers are concerned about being the next viral video and so that influences what they do and how they do it, and how they think about it,” said Darrel Stephens, executive director of the Major Cities Chiefs Association. He added that he does not believe it is rampant or that officers are turning a blind eye, “but I still have to believe it may be in a marginal call situation where there’s a reasonable suspicion on the bubble ... that those are the ones they pass up.”
