This is a horrible, nasty case, so solid evidence would be needed to start looking at someone seriously.

At worst, I imagine they tried to rope him in as a person of influence for future blackmail. He wouldn't be the first or the last of such efforts.

Furthermore, the term "Trumpers" is resentful. It's about policies, not personality.
