Not really. During the Ottoman years Palestine was sleepy and apolitical.
Ottoman Turks were continually at war with Byzantines in the Levant from the 13th Century until the middle of the 15th. With The Mamluks and Persians in the 16th and 17th Centuries. From then on, they were continuously in conflict with Europeans and their neighbors in Egypt, Lebanon, and present day Iran until the Ottoman Empire dissolved in 1918.
But Palestine was sleepy
In fact, not. For much of the Ottoman reign, they were actively fighting with Byzantine over the region. They had a continuous conflict with Egypt and the Levant inhabitants which, as you already know, is part of that region.
Since the time of the Jewish Kingdom in Palestine, that region has been invaded and fought over by Greeks, Romans, Persians, Egyptians, Byzantines, Ummayads, Abbasids, Fatamids, Franks, Normans, Armenians, Seljuk Turks, Ayyabids, Mamluks, Ottoman Turks, Arabs, and The British.
Over no significant length of time could the region be referred to as "sleepy" and "peaceful".
As for Palestine, one hundred years ago its population of 78,000 Jews constituted twelve percent of the general Palestine population of 650,000. Between 1946 and 1948 the population ratio altered drastically.
