Here's a good rant about it I found on the Ronnie Montrose Official Facebook page.

Eminem and Dolly Parton appear to be heading to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In his first year of “eligibility,” Eminem, who has contributed nothing to Rock and Roll, will be inducted ahead of the following who have contributed significantly - Montrose, Jethro Tull, Porcupine Tree, Bad Company, Dixie Dregs, The Monkees, Joe Satriani, Mott the Hoople, Boston, Whitford/St. Holmes, Paul Gilbert, Hot Tuna, Dream Theater, Hubert Sumlin, Dave Mason (solo), Blue Murder, Robin Trower, Spock’s Beard, Sonny Landreth, Gamma, Blackfoot, Captain Beyond, King’s X, Firehouse, Gene Loves Jezebel, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Jayhawks, Marc Bonilla, 38 Special, Iron Maiden, Supertramp, Edgar Winter Group, Styx, Little River Band, Derek Trucks Band, Billy Idol, Molly Hatchet, J. Geils Band, Stone Temple Pilots, Peter Frampton, Dick Dale, Alice In Chains, The Outlaws, Big Mama Thornton, The Cult, Procol Harum, Dio, The Guess Who, Blue Oyster Cult, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Los Lobos, Alan Parsons Project, Foghat, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Asia, Queensrÿche, Link Wray, The Babys, Free, Garbage, Steppenwolf, Gary Wright, Living Colour, Rick Derringer, U.F.O., Uriah Heep, Whitesnake, The Corrs, The Dead Milkmen, Eric Johnson, Mr. Big, The Flower Kings, Marillion, Ian Hunter, Nazareth, Jeff Healy Band, Marshall Tucker Band, Ted Nugent, Matthew Sweet, Night Ranger, Orleans, Peter Wolf, Sammy Hagar, Scorpions, Warren Zevon, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, Steve Vai, The Thieves, James Gang, Tesla, Glenn Hughes, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Three Dog Night, Rory Gallagher, Grand Funk Railroad, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Pat Travers Band, Roland Janes, Joe Perry Project, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Candlebox, Derek St. Holmes, Foreigner, Ronnie Montrose (solo), Extreme, Racer X, Spinal Tap, Ten Years After, The Black Crowes, Richard Thompson, Suzi Quatro, Johnny Winter, Meat Loaf, Little Feat, REO Speedwagon, Nicolette Larson, Kansas, Oasis, Blackmore’s Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, Spooky Tooth, Marshall Crenshaw, The Outfield, Status Quo.

Some have suggested that some “Rockers” think Eminem absolutely belongs in the Hall because he has had tremendous success in the music industry and that they should rename it “Music Hall of Fame” so fans don’t get so upset or pigeon-holed about the verbiage. As an equivalence, it’s like saying that since basketball and hockey are both played indoors and many times in the same arena on the same day (and people like them), Wayne Gretzky is going to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Since he is the Great One, it will be on the first ballot.

The proposed induction of Eminem is not popular with rock and roll loving people at all. The Country Music Hall of Fame has existed since 1964 and Dolly Parton deservedly is all over it. R&R earned its Hall of Fame and it has a mission statement that only talks about Rock and Roll, that it is created for and designed to promote R&R, not Rap, not Country and not non-Rock pop music. They can and should create a Music Hall of Fame and a Rap/Hip Hop Hall of Fame and that would be great. We just `want to see R&R to be promoted.

All of the artists that are on the list and many more have earned the right and deserve to be in the RRHOF. They are not going to get there. Jethro Tull, Boston, Bad Company, The Monkees, Dave Mason, Blue Oyster Cult, J. Geils Band, and more were headliners playing R&R at a jam-packed stadiums and are not in the Hall. A lot of bands that fly under the radar get a surge when they are nominated or inducted to the RRHOF, and they deserve that too. Eminem is not R&R. Wayne Gretzky is not a basketball player.

There already is an organization that measures tremendous success in the music industry, the Grammys. The Grammys abused and ignored R&R artists for years and was a motivating factor for creating the RRHOF. The first dedicated Rock Grammy started in 1980 simultaneously with the (one and only) Disco award. Many of the awards have been totally lame. Pink Floyd has 1 Grammy, The Eagles 6, Fleetwood Mac 2, Billy Joel 5, Queen 0, Marvin Gaye 2, The Beatles 9, Van Halen 1, and Joe Satriani has 14 nominations in the very narrow Rock Instrumentalization category and 0 wins. Eminem has 43 nominations and 15 wins, so he certainly isn’t being starved for recognition.

So real Rock artists deserve what little compensation they can get for being recognized by an organization that targets exactly what they have been dedicated to doing.

Three big boobs

^^^ I agree that she is country, but maybe collaborating with enough non country acts are what score her such recognition.

I wonder if doing two albums with the lead of Led Zepplin is enough to get Alison Krauss in there some day. :D :D :D

God bless you and her and Robert Plant and Dolly always!!!

Holly (a fan of Alison since 1994)

P.S. Sadly that man there singing with Dolly went forward in 2019.

Dolly is a wonderful person as she has done great things, but inducting her into the rock and roll hall of fame would be like inducting Hank Aaron into the football hall of fame.

If anyone knows anything about the culture and history of music, they'd know that rockabilly is just a country form of rock.

And Dolly is pretty much a natural at it.

But whatever. The RnR Hall of Fame isn't really taken that seriously any more anyway.

Dolly crosses many platforms as does Alison, so I can understand Dolly induction but not the Rapper…

The RNRHOF sucks Alaskan moose cock. I visited there years ago I asked the attendant where the Frank Zappa exhibition was and he went "duh. Who's Frank Zappa?"
