Don’t Call It Climate Change. Red States Prepare For ‘Extreme Weather’

They think money buys the science.

Yet the most profitable industry in the history of mankind can't seem to buy the science it wants.

But far be it from them to let reality get in the way of a good pile of naysaying.
Reminds me of the Tobacco Companies

Interesting thread.

Seems both sides agree the weather is changing. One side wants to try and stop it, which is fucking stupid. The other side wants to do nothing to adapt to the coming changes, which is just as fucking stupid.

Again, this is what happens when politics rule lives.

The truth is that the right’s unwarranted opposition to addressing climate change is based on the lie that doing so will hurt the economy and result in lost jobs:

It's sad because the exact opposite is what can and does happen.

The truth is that it will hurt the coal and oil companies.

Coal is already suffering.

Oil will do all it can to prevent the same thing happening to them.

No matter that it's literally killing our planet.

Uh...wut?

Maybe, alleviate it for our grandkids.

There is no "stopping" whatever is happening. Whether it is mankind's fault or not, we are not going to change our ways soon enough to make any difference.

The only thing left to do is prepare for the changes, that both sides agree are going to happen.

The climate always changes

Thats natural

If the earth warms a few degrees that will cause less damage than the efforts to make the weather remain static

Basically, Fuk people starving in Africa

As long as we are not inconvenienced

Yet, strangely, science from around the world concurs that we are suffering from man made climate change and we need to do something about it.

The only ones objecting are conservatives and Big Oil
I think there is a degree of climate changes that are the result of mankind. But nowhere NEAR the alarmist "sky is falling" claims.
It is a FACT... that in the 1960s - 70s - a coming Ice Age was the rage.
By the mid 70s - Acid Rain is going to kill all vegetation in the Northern Hemisphere
By the late 80s-90s - Global warming will result in all of the ice caps gone by 2020... NYC under water... desert wastelands throughout the world.
Now... Climate Change. ANd with climate change it is mainly cherry picking data while ignoring anything and everything that shows differently.
Artic Ice has been increasing, something 5 years ago they said would be devastatingly low by now... so instead of talking about Ice Shelves... it's ambient temps, but only in certain areas. The Antarctic Ice Shelves are in near record highs, but some parts of Antarctic is seeing abnormally warmer temps, but not unheard of... so what are the alarmist writing articles about?? The higher temps is spotty areas and leading the reader to believe it is the whole of Antarctica.
Like everything else, it has all become political. One side pushing their agenda, another pushing theirs. The truth, as usual, is in-between.

So the question is….How fast?

Whether the effects are catastrophic in 20 years or 100 years, we still need to take action…NOW

Right, there is only mitigation. We were warned 40 years ago.

I prefer adaptation to mitigation.

We were, then it became political and politicians made stupid movies about it and made stupid predictions about it...and BOOM...we did nothing because that is the nature of political issues.

The right is waking up to the reality of climate change.

However since they spent a couple of decades saying it was all a hoax and not real, the republican politicians are now having to use the words" extreme weather."

No matter what terminology they use, they are finally waking up to the reality of it and finally taking some steps to combat the effects of climate change.

The sad thing, we never would have had to do this if the right had not spent so much time denying it's happening and actually took steps to combat it we wouldn't be in the situation we're in now.

It's going to cost much more and we will have to take more steps to combat it since it was allowed to get so bad.

I sure wish the right had woken up decades ago to this problem. It wouldn't be as bad as it is now.

That half a billion that DeSantis is going to spend isn't federal tax dollars. It's state tax dollars which means the state of Florida is going to have to raise taxes in some way soon.

They will probably do as they have been doing with taxes for decades.

Hit the guests who go there as tourists. The last time I was in Florida there were FIVE separate taxes on hotels and car rentals. While the taxes on the people who live there are very low.

The last thing a republican is going to do is be responsible and pay their own way.

So don't be surprised if it's much more expensive to visit Florida than it already is.

Nobody is waking up to anything except what has been taught in schools for the past 50 years about the change in climate we live in. With or without the the Anthroprogenic stupidity movement the climate which has been changing for hundred of millennia will continue to do what has been doing regardless of man's opinion of it.

We need to do both
