If Donald Trump reneges on his promises regarding immigration, do Trump supporters abandon him in 2020? His next election is going to be much more difficult since the Democrats won't be running the most unelectable candidate ever once again and it seemed like the immigration issue was a huge issue for his supporters (probably #2 behind the economy).

Im not thinking Democrats will be his biggest problem. Im thinking republicans will.

Many of Trump's "promises" are not really at the President's discretion, and would require action by Congress.

Four years is an eternity in politics. Whether Trump will decide to run again, whether he will be impeached, and whether his Presidency will be a success or a disaster are now totally unknown.

But honestly, who in the Democrat party could mount a credible campaign TODAY? Let alone four years from now. The only people on the radar screen will be over 70, and are known Left-wing whack jobs.

Barring something unforeseen, I think a second term should be Trump's for the asking.

Maybe Hillary will run again she seems to enjoy losing.

It is literally impossible to have a worse candidate than Hitlery Clinton. I guarantee you they will have a better candidate. Even if it is that nitwit Bernie Sanders, he's exponentially more trustworthy than Hitlery.

Does it matter? Turns out you can lose an election by 2.3 million votes and still win anyway.

That's exactly what I'm saying. If he reneges on his promises regrading immigration (and all indications are at this point that he will), will Republicans turn on him? Immigration appeared to be critical to his supporters.

Yeah...it's called the Electoral College genius. It ensures that two cities do not decide the fate of the entire nation. Gasp! Imagine that concept...

Building a wall is well within the presidents discretion. The wall is not a law, therefore it does not require the legislative branch.

Incidentally, it is highly irresponsible of any candidate to make promises which are not under their discretion to follow through on.

That's just it though. You've got it backwards. While they might not be anyone from the left who could mount a credible campaign today, I can almost guarantee there will be one 4 years from now. What do you think the Democrats will be doing for the next 4 years? They will be searching for, polishing, and financing that person.

And the left does have some credible candidates. I think Martin O'Malley would slaughter Trump head-to-head. He's actually a proponent of the 2nd Amendment so the gun rights activists won't work around the clock to defeat him. He doesn't have the scandals of Hitlery Clinton and he doesn't have the trustworthy issue of Hitlery Clinton. There are others in the party as well. Not many of course. But some.

Trump simply wanted to win the contest, much like a RV show. He will find being president too boring for him
He will find being the most powerful man in the world, drug into the most critical issues around the globe, to be (and I quote) "too boring for him"? He will find having the nuclear launch codes handed to him and daily national security briefings "too boring for him"? Do you have any idea what the presidency entails? I can assure you, the one thing a U.S. President has never been is "bored".
and he will have no patience for the demands of a national and international diplomacy. The responsibilities of president does not fit his personality. You'll see.
Um...you do realize that the guy is the ultimate narcissistic megalomaniac, don't you? There is no way someone like that surrenders power when they don't have to. The presidency is like Trump Enterprises times a hundred thousand.

Oh hell no.

Every hypocritical thing is okay if Trump does it. That's the new Right's motto.
