Does the GOP actually have a majority in the House?

Given the self inflicted wound suffered in the defeat for funding the DHS on Friday it is readily apparent that Boehner is not the leader of at least 50 House members. If you subtract them then the GOP is actually a minority party that has been forced into a "coalition" with the "crazy people".

The "Gang of 50" sided with the Dems on Friday and refused to budge because their demands were not being met by the Speaker. Boehner offered no incentive to the Dems either so he was effectively neutered by what can best be described as RINO's.

If the Speaker does not have a majority that will do his bidding then the GOP doesn't have a de facto majority either.

There are 2 paths that Boehner can take going forward. He can continue to pander to the Gang of 50 and take the hits or he can form a working coalition with the Dems and actually get something done.

Right now the Gang of 50 have the Speaker by his privates and are calling the shots. That can't be a comfortable situation for him given that it exposes the GOP to criticism that it "can't govern" going into 2016. Forming a bipartisan coalition would negate that criticism and it would protect Boehner from losing his Speaker position because a condition of that coalition would be Dem support if it came up for a vote.

IMO the GOP does not have a majority in the House. Instead it has a coalition with the "crazy people" and that is going to be a heavy burden to carry going into 2016.

We now have a three party system. There are Republicans , Crazy Republicans, and Democrats. The Republicans and the Crazy Republicans are as far apart as the Republicans and Democrats.

Its true they don't have a mandate but that has never mattered to them before so won't matter now.

Damn Dems.

The idiot RWs, the FoxFollowers vote against the US and against themselves and their families and the DAMN DEMS don't vote.

The Crazy Republicans are actually Libertarians leeching off the GOP because they cannot survive as a party on the merits of their own ideas. This parasitic relationship is threatening the existence of the GOP IMO. To have 20% plus of your elected representatives not adhering to your party platform is a major problem for the establishment Republicans.

In essence they made a pact with the devil to gain power only to have to now pay the price. Without the crazy people they lose their majority and with them they cannot exercise their own direction.

It is a political Catch-22 and they are going to have to dig themselves out of this hole all by themselves because no sane person wants to touch this with a 10' pole.

It does not matter. The elites will get their way no matter who controls congress.

I can understand the confusion when Republicans don't walk in sync like the jack booted thug democrats.

The Gang of 50 Libertarians are marching in lockstep...but it is over a political cliff of their own making and they taking the GOP over with them.

Politics has degenerated to a situation where nobody lives up to the basis of the parties they affiliate themselves with. Most do so as it is the only way of gaining office.

Just like many posters here, they cloak themselves with labels to avoid close scrutiny.

The average American has no more idea of what conservative/liberal means than they understand the most basic laws of nuclear physics.

the GOP majority was sent to DC to block obama's socialist, marxist, collectivist policies. If they take a hit from the media for doing their jobs, so be it.

The people elected their representatives, shockingly some refuse to bow to the party establishment and are faithfully representing the constituents back home. This should be encouraged.

The clowns don't seem to understand the function of our representative form of government. Elected republicans represent their constituents. Elected democrats become lockstep zombies taking orders only from their own leadership regardless of the will of their constituents. . Any democrat who steps out of line is thrown out of the party. Joe Lieberman is a case in point.

If republicans won't do what it takes to keep the promises they were elected on they need to go off a cliff. They either hold the line they drew in the elections or go away next election, we don't need half measures or someone who will go along to get along. Those 50 crazies, as you put it are the only ones holding the party to their promises.

The Gang of 50 are driving a deep wedge into the very heart of the GOP. They are usurpers and will cause more harm than good IMO. A house divided against itself will fall and that is exactly what you are about to witness happening.

Bullshit, they are holding the GOP to their campaign promises, those that fail to keep those promises will be writing the demise of the GOP, not the gang of 52. It's the commiecrats that are supporting lawlessness, why do you support them?

Representatives are suppose to represent their constituents back home, not the party.

If this gang of 50 are actually doing that, then more power to them. Too bad its not the whole Congress.

Party Politics has gotten us into a lot of messes. Defying party politics seems to be the only method for the Congress to move forward.

The gang of 50, if this continues, will guarantee a huge Dem victory next year.

Boner has been naught but the head of a band of near-Democrat RINOs for far too long. His cave-ins will either cost him his "leadership" role after the next election or will just hand permanent control over to the puppet-master he apparently shares with Our Kenyan Emperor.

I would rather our GOP candidate runs against HRC than Warren, yes.

But your failed ilk, Redfish, will not be choosing your type of candidate.
