This is Reaganisque if successful. Look after those who risk their personal freedom for justice. Furthermore, the West need more citizens like this around the world and they shouldn't feel like they could rot in a cell to help eliminate dirty terrorists.

Doc who helped get Bin Laden on Trump's radar ahead of meeting with Pakistani PM

SLAMABAD – The America-loving Pakistani doctor who helped the CIA pinpoint Usama Bin Laden in advance of the raid that killed the world’s most wanted man could be on the cusp of freedom.

Dr. Shakil Afridi, whose vaccination ruse helped the U.S. determine Bin Laden was holed up in an Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound before the May 2, 2011 raid by SEAL Team 6 members and CIA agents, has been imprisoned for nearly six years in the majority Muslim nation. But with Trump set to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on his current Middle East trip, new hope has arisen that Afridi could be released on or around May 24, when he is due to appear in court.

"It is evident that negotiations had started between the Pakistan and U.S. officials to release Dr. Afridi and we expect a good news at the May 24 hearing,” said Qamar Nadim, Afridi’s attorney. “The allegations against Dr. Afridi will be likely ruled out."

During his successful campaign, Trump pledged to get Afridi released “in two minutes” if elected, saying he would use the threat of revoking foreign aid as leverage. Pakistan’s interior minister responded in a statement, saying “Contrary to Mr. Trump’s misconception, Pakistan is not a colony of the United States of America.”

This week, a senior official at the U.S. State Department told Fox News the Trump administration has and will continue to press the case for releasing Afridi.

“We believe Dr. Afridi has been unjustly imprisoned and have clearly communicated our position to Pakistan on Dr. Afridi's case, both in public and in private,” the official said. “We continue to raise this issue at the highest levels during discussions with Pakistan's leadership.”

Very stupid, to publicize such things. It means the Pakistani government will be pressured to not release him, as it would be seen in Pakistan as cravenly bowing to US demands.

The Obama admin was much smarter about such things. For example, There was some US serviceman that Mexico had jailed on bogus charges. The conservatives all screamed that Obama better DEMAND his release RIGHT NOW! Not being morons, the Obama admin did no such thing. And shortly later, after the kerfluffle died down, the Mexicans released him. That wouldn't have happened if the Obama admin had publicly demanded it.

Thats nice and all, but President Trump didnt bring this up to the press, so your entire premise is based on a false assumption.

Some reasonable points and I don't disagree with you completely. However, at the end of the day, with all that is going on from the alt-left and investigations, this wouldn't even make front page news if it happened. Certainly credit would be kept to a minimum.

Furthermore, if he is seen as a man of his word, someone who can reinvigorate old relationships with allies such as Israel and Japan for instance while also balancing other more broad alliances, even if not as close; countries will realize you have much to gain from doing right by America, and as much to lose if you are defiant. His word has to be his bond in International relations. His administration picks are definitely loyal to this adage from what I can see.

So, if Pakistan is going to reject Foreign Aid for the overzealous punishment of one National, so be it. It would be a horrible decision by their government. The way Trumps admin should view this, it's a win/win. If he is released, they win freedom for someone who is a hero in many ways, if they don't get his release, Trump can tell America that they now have a reasonable reason to deny them funding, more money for U.S programs.

Obviously it doesn't need to be overplayed, but in history, those who go that extra mile in the name of some virtuous principle always win the heart and minds of humanity.

If it wasn't for Obama's big mouth, he wouldn't be in prison.

I hope they (the CIA) can get the doc out.

I'm surprised they haven't already gotten him asylum.
