These partial lock downs really do not have multiple waves, but simple cause the first wave to last potentially forever. So then as soon as you try to get back to normal, the curve you artificially flattened, spikes again. This can go on forever. It assures the maximum death toll.

What makes much more sense is to just let it spike and end, as quickly as possible.
That is how all past epidemics have ended.
That is called herd immunity, because it works and protects even dumb herd animals.
So we are doing worse than even dumb herd animals.

If EVERYONE took responsibility to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus ... for “only” ONE MONTH by adhering to strict 3-W guidelines (masks, social distancing, hand washing before touching face), would we not beat the pandemic nationally with our borders closed?
Of course, we would need to do a strict “lockdown”, but it would be cost-effective in the long run, like taking 1 step backwards before taking 2 or 3 steps forward.

Actually historically humans have traditionally had great success in ending epidemics by using variolation to speed up herd immunity.
That is where you deliberately infect the healthiest who are most likely to survive without harm.
Since the young are 40 times less likely to die from covid-19 than the elderly, they would be perfect volunteers for variolation. Even the ancient Egyptians did variolation on wide spread scales.
All epidemics in all of history and likely before that, have been ended by herd immunity.
The quick spike uses up all the local potential hosts, so the virus dies off.
And we could accelerate it to end it in less than a month.

Vaccine is coming in 5/6 months

That is ignorant of history.
All epidemic in all of history are easily and quickly ended.
All you have to do is allow herd immunity to end it with its first spike.
As long as you do not "flatten the curve", all epidemics are quickly over.
It is only when you screw up and try to flatten the curve that they last forever, instead of just a month or two.

That would not stop the spread of the disease, it would only delay the spread. After the one month was up and life went back to normal, the spread would continue unabated. You have two choices with something like this, shut down indefinitely hoping a medical prevention or treatment will emerge or balance the need for people to live their lives and manage the spread the best you can, knowing that you cannot totally prevent infections.

If EVERYONE adhered to the medical advice, and contact tracing was used to contain the spread (if there were miscues), how would the virus continue spreading beyond control within locked borders?
Other countries have done a great job at containment, including New Zealand, Vietnam, and China too.

How long would we have to maintain locked borders and being sealed in our homes? My point is, whenever people come in contact with other people, the virus will spread. Minus vaccines and/or treatments, people will get sick and some will die. The only question is how quickly.

You can actually end an epidemic faster than we are now by speeding it up.
If the virus gets too greedy and infects all those in frequent contract with one infected, then the virus has no new victim to support it, and it dies.
That is who herd immunity works, and we could accelerate it by deliberate infection of healthy volunteers.
We could have ended it in 3 weeks, saving hundreds of thousands of lives.

Given the low mortality of the disease, the only justification for doing it the way we did is avoiding overwhelming hospitals. In the past, we quarantined the sick. This time we quarantined the well. Odd.

Worse than that, we put the elderly and infected into the same food lines.
We locked down everyone together, and did not separate anyone.
There were 700 homeless who tested positive in ABQ, and we did nothing at all for them.
They had to still wait in line at grocery stores to buy food.

I don't think so. I got infected even though I was keeping the restrictions, so, if it gets you, it just does. We have to learn to live with it at the end of the day.
