CDZ Do you think that when this crisis is over we will see a change in our societies ?

Democrats will have to deregulate to get the economy going again.. the infrastructure plan they want will ADD JOB KILLING REGULATIONS. They will lose again

Dems aren't interested in "deregulating". What they are interested in is to bring Big Labor into as many workplaces as possible. If they win in November, the nation's Italian Clubs will be doing a booming business as the Union Rackets will be going full blast and the business agents will be looking to blow off steam after a long day of shaking people down.
I can’t tell people enough how unions have destroyed small business in Boston, 40 years ago when there was a good balance it was fine but they have over regulated the small man out. Liberty means nothing to them they are communist.

The corporate chains are a lot better equipped to deal with union organizers than the little guy. That's why they take over so often, as per this video of a couple of New Jersey business reps talking with a Starbucks manager.

Lol

Maybe in attitudes or even in statute form ?

I am not confident that much will change but if I could wave a wand -

I would like to see the whole disaster analyzed and best practice adopted for future problems. Some countries have done really well but some of us have not.

I would like to see our government be mandated to hold a certain level of ppe in readiness.

I would like to see this audited every year by the NAO and the results published.

I would like to see a minister for disaster created and task them with sorting out protocols for lockdowns and supply issues.

I would like people to have more appreciation for our frontline workers, the ones who are keeping the country going.

I would like to see more companies adopt home working for staff.

Im sure there are a lot more things that could and should happen.

Back during WWI, influenza hit, taking out at least half a million Americans, 30 + million humans worldwide. They had much the same reaction to it as we have to this.

Everybody likes to play the blame game, but the bottom line is, if the warring political parties were more concerned with solving real problems than catering to special interest groups, attacking the Liberties of each other, and trying to change the outcome of elections you might get something done. We need to worry about the world's food supply, how to prepare for pandemics, and small things like forcing insurance companies to pay people for damages without having to go to court. If it cost the super rich to jerk people around; if they paid punitive damages, society would be better served.

With millions of people not being drug tested for jobs since employers aren't hiring; non-essential doctors not treating patients right now (specialists, dermatologists, etc.), and people getting ready to graduate from medical and nursing schools, there is NO reason, not one reason in HELL that we shouldn't have testing centers every five miles all across America and the ability to give the results in hours, not days.

History will repeat itself; society will forget the big pandemic in less than a decade and we won't do squat about it. It's more important to build a freaking wall, get reparations for Black people, execute anyone that offends LGBTQP community, have silly ass impeachment hearings, and argue about whether we want a Nanny State or a POLICE STATE.

BTW, I offended everyone equally.

Nope. There will be no change till the progressive left starts their long sought revolutions.

Then, it all depends on who wins.

Here is a conservative writing in a left wing magazine.

But the world has changed – and it’s changing fast. Public support in the UK for a more interventionist and redistributive state has been on the rise for several years. As much as ministers may protest, there were shades of this message in both Vote Leave’s victory in 2016 and Boris Johnson’s landslide win in 2019. What’s more, private and public polling during Corbyn’s leadership often showed that it wasn’t so much the policies that caused problems for the Labour Party – but the character of the former leader and the public’s doubts over his competence.

The coronavirus crisis has catalysed such attitudes, as recent polling by Portland during the pandemic has demonstrated. There has been overwhelming support – and demand – for the government’s vast fiscal response to the economic emergency that has developed. We have seen calls for intervention, in a variety of forms, against large businesses who are not acting in the communitarian spirit of the time. And the focus has increased, too, on the pay and conditions of public sector workers, not to mention lower-paid employees in the private sector.

I think that basic fair play will be an easy sell in the years to come.

Fair play or socialism just killed 150 million. Capitalism and state's rights like our genius Founders wanted is truly fair play.
Capitalism's most famous words are " how can I help you"

Socialism's most famous words are, "how can I steal from you."

It wouldn’t surprise me to see an exodus away from urban centers towards the suburbs and more rural areas. The dangers of living in very close proximity have been hammered home in no uncertain terms.

Are we witnessing the death knell of populism ? The countries that have been most affected by the virus have populist governments . UK, US, Italy. The response to the crisis has been pretty disastrous and in our case driven by issues not connected to the actual disease.

Our government has flipped strategies on handling this and driven by poll numbes rather than medical evidence. You cant run a country that way. Our public services have been run down over a decade and money was saved by not having taken the correct preparations to ready the country for a pandemic. Taxes are unpopular but needed.

One wonders why we found money to bomb Syria but not to buy handgel or protective clothing.

Government have always planned for disasters but having done so they usually take note of the results and plan accordingly. Not so in this instance. The lesson being that if you elect a clown you get a circus.

There has been a shift over here in the last few weeks. Even the normally lapdog tory press has been roused and is sticking the boot in. The virus has affected everybody, rich or poor, and the middle classes are seeing the heartless incompetence of the government that was once the preserve of the poor and vulnerable.

Our Prime Minister is an incompetent oaf who has strengthened his position by surrounding himself with willing idiots. When he went into hospital it exposed the void in government.

Populism elects people who appeal to people on an emotional level. It doesnt guarantee competence. The UK has a pandemic response led by a few journalists, a nonentity and a guy who used to punt pyramid schemes under a false name. Organisational ability is not a skill that is evident.

We probably have the government we deserve but lessons are being learned and integrity and intelligence will have a higher value next time we vote.

I hope.
