But don’t be fooled: The politicians patting themselves on the back for repealing subsidies to farmers have found a surreptitious way to deposit these savings right back in the pocket of agribusiness. That’s because the farm bill will expand subsidies for crop insurance, which looks like a private-sector program but which actually hands over virtually the same amount of taxpayer money to farmers, mostly wealthy ones, as the old direct payment program. What’s more, the shift from direct payments to crop insurance ensures that those handouts can be distributed in a hidden, more politically palatable way, making it more difficult to ever dislodge them.

As a Republican, I am for breakfast and lunch for disadvantaged children, student loans as long as it doesn't cripple the student with interest for the next 20 years, help for the poor, and drug testing of the poor and finding jobs for the poor, continued health care for the poor just as we always have, and allowing parents to pass on what they have to their children.

One of those things we would like to pass on to our children, are the farms that have been in our families for generations. For the first time in hundreds of years we can no longer do that. The farms have to be sold to pay the death taxes. It is criminal.

A dairy farmer here, figured out his hourly wage and for all, and I mean all of the hard work to keep the farm running, he makes about 15 cents an hour. Most of the farmers here get up at 3 am to feed the animals and bring in hay, and get done what they can before they leave for work. The rest gets done when they get home. Then supper, then to bed because they are exhausted.

So yes, subsidies are a necessity if you want to eat. That hamburger you ate today used to need to be fed, vetted, and cared for on a daily basis.

How about not subsidizing Monsanto to genetically alter your food, and raise the private farm and ranch subsidies so the man who "grows" your milk can make 25 cents and hour.

Some of them have their own private landing strip for their airplanes. You should see the homes they live in.
