Disgusting partisan bullshittery in Maryland

While the rest of the country was fixated on the Presidential election, voters in Maryland eagerly begged partisan politicians to make sure that all things ever will be even more partisan in the state. An amendment to the state constitution was on the ballot yesterday to change the way the Governor can fill sudden vacancies in the Attorney General and Comptroller offices. Under the previous system the Governor would make an appointment, and the appointed person would serve until the next election. Fairly straightforward and typical system.

However, Maryland Democratic leaders have been shitting themselves ever since Republican Larry Hogan was elected Governor two years ago, and decided they needed to make sure that a sudden vacancy wouldn't open the door to a Republican filling the void, and end up doing a better job than the decades of Democratic mismanagement in both offices, so they devised a new system that would enshrine partisanship into the state's very constitution. The Democrats' proposed amendment would require that upon a sudden vacancy, the Governor must fill the vacancy will a member of the same political party. The state party will submit a list of three candidates, and the Governor must choose from those three, and must do so within 30 days.

This kind of overt fuckery is bad enough to see. But the worst part is that voters overwhelmingly approved the amendment yesterday by nearly a 2 - 1 margin! How sick does the electorate have to be when they choose to enshrine partisanship directly into the state's constitution? Shame on the people of Maryland.

Maryland comptroller, attorney general vacancies will now be handled differently

Considering they already applied this rule to Senators, I am not surprised.

What else do you expect from a state full of government employees who are all Democrats.
