“This domain has been seized by ICE-Homeland Security Investigations,” the notice read. “Advertisement, distribution, transportation, receipt, and possession of child pornography constitute federal crimes that carry penalties for first time offenders of up to 30 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, forfeiture and restitution.”

In February this warning was posted on some 84,000 websites seized by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as part of Operation Protect Our Children. But only 10 of the 84,000 sites were suspected of involvement in child pornography. Instead of asking the domain host, mooo.com, to shut down the targeted sites, DHS seized the entire domain. As a result, the other 99.9 percent of the sites, mostly associated with individuals and small businesses, were spuriously linked to child pornography for three to five days.

That's a huge hammer.. Can you imagine the DAMAGE? Explaining to your clients WHY you were shut-down by the FEDs for child porn??

I think DHS should have provided a LOGO banner and LINK to an apology letter that could be placed on the website of those who were wronged?

Dont hold your breath. DHS has a huge blank check to do what they want. when they want. to whom they want.

Federal law enforcement is a mess and it has been a mess through the last several administrations. Look at the ATF shipping 2,000 automatic weapons to Mexico. Consolidating the mess under "homeland security" with a left wing know nothing politician at the helm is not making life any easier for travelers.

Consolidation of federal law enforcement would help. There are way too many branches. Many of them could be consolidated under the FBI.

You think maybe all that DHS consolidation kinda screwed up the accountibility and "consumer friendliness" of all those little fiefdoms? Never did like the ring of "Homeland Security"... Always reminded me of the 3rd Reich...

It is the federal govts job to protect our borders. But come on. DHS was a knee jerk reaction to 9-11 the FBI was fully able to handle the extra work after that tragedy.
