Despite threat, Republicans block election security bills

So......I'm not sure why it wouldn't be prudent to add extra protections to our elections. Shouldn't this be an issue we all can agree on?
Ask the democrats why they did not include their republican members in the crafting and writing of such a bill, again only one republican voted for it.

During the hearing featuring Robert Mueller, special counsel for the 400-page Mueller Report, Rep. Will Hurd, a Texas Republican who previously served in the CIA, said Russia posed a “significant threat” as it increased the frequency and intensity of its active measures.

Mueller agreed, adding that in 2020, the threat wouldn’t be coming from Russia alone. “Many more countries are developing the capability to replicate what the Russians have done.”

“The Russians are absolutely intent on trying to interfere with our elections,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said on Tuesday.

CNN reports, "The Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday released a wide-ranging report that detailed Russia's attempts to hack US election infrastructure during the 2016 election, urging states and the federal government to do more to prevent election cyberattacks in the future.

"The 67-page bipartisan report concluded that the Russian government "directed extensive activity against U.S. election infrastructure" from 2014 through 2017.

"Based on what the IC knows about Russia's operating procedures and intentions more broadly, the IC assesses that Russia's activities against U.S. election infrastructure likely sought to further their overarching goal; undermining the integrity of elections and American confidence in democracy," it states."

"This Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story. It's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should've won," President Donald Trump.

Never one to question the President on anything, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) blocked two election security measures on Thursday, arguing Democrats are trying to give themselves a "political benefit," so says The Hill.

“Clearly this request is not a serious effort to make a law. Clearly something so partisan that it only received one single solitary Republican vote in the House is not going to travel through the Senate by unanimous consent,” McConnell said.

Okay. Now the question becomes, Senator, you have enjoyed a Republican majority for over 30 months, for two years you had the assistance of a Republican controlled House, and we have been aware of this problem for over four years, where is the Republican bill(s) for election security?

There is an abundance of evidence from your own Senate Intelligence Committee that the problem has not gone away.

Is it because the boss won't allow it? He thinks it is all a "made-up story."

you had the assistance of a Republican controlled House, and we have been aware of this problem for over four years, where is the Republican bill(s) for election security?

Over four years? Where was the Obama bill?

President Obama does not write legislation. The R's controlled the majority during his final two years in office.

I don't remember Obama discussing this issue 4 years ago.
Maybe he didn't think it was a problem, eh?

Really?! After the last three years the FBI and CNN have pretty much zero credibility. And Mueller, does he even know where Russia is on a map?
Three POTUSes had Mueller working for them and he is ignorant about Russia?
Your statements are so stupid that you can only be a Russian troll or a wannabe one.
Apparently you missed yesterdays meeting where Mueller was able to dazzle everyone with his brilliance...dumbass.
Apparently you missed the fact that Mueller was told by Trump’s DOJ to stick with the text in his report, dumbass.

I'm not sure what your comment has to do with the article. Why do I care what happened previously? Even if nothing was done by the previous administration it shouldn't mean this administration should ignore the threat.

I think you updated your comment on me. hahahahaha

I don't disagree that both parties should work together to write legislation. But at some point we cannot continue to point to the other side as an excuse to avoid doing the right thing.

I truly do not understand this aversion. The country is so divided that we have become our own worse enemy.

What part of Partisan boondoggle don't you get? The democrats crafted a flawed bill designed to aid them not the Country.

Who said this administration is ignoring the threat? What do we need a Senate Bill for. You sound like Pelosi when she demanded to know from Trump where
the Jobs Bills were. The only Jobs Bill Trump needed was to toss those regulations in the trash and get Government out of the way of the private sector.

All the Senate has to do is stay out of the way of our intel services and military and our elections can be protected. IF, of course, When the DNC gets hacked
again, they don't get another law firm to sue to keep their computer from the FBI and not allowing the FBI to search it.

I have yet to hear anything that warrants spending $5.00!

Electing a POTUS & Congress reps/senators is a Federal matter, don’t you think? Like Fed funding for Interstate highways, and FBI operations for crimes across states.

This Repub senator makes sense, no?
Senator Richard M. Burr, Republican of North Carolina and the chairman of the committee, described the events of 2016 as one in which the United States was blindsided.
“In 2016, the U.S. was unprepared at all levels of government for a concerted attack from a determined foreign adversary on our election infrastructure,” Mr. Burr wrote. “Since then, we have learned much more about the nature of Russia’s cyberactivities and better understand the real and urgent threat they pose.”

The first bill mentioned wouldn't pass constitutional muster, States are responsible for conducting elections, congress can't dictate the types of equipment they use to do so.

The Federal gov is interested in NATIONAL security, no? Hint: yes it is!

We have a National Security Council for a reason, and Cybersecurity is a part of it.
If the Russians are trying to hack our elections, then it’s a FEDERAL issue. The Exec branch needs funding from Congress for its counter-hacking operations (and help States), and the House Democrats & Bipartisan Senate committee are trying to provide it.
HOWEVER, traitor Trump & his patsy McConnell are trying to derail National Cybersecurity to stay in power ...

Are you smelling your coffee yet, “Admiral” (for Russia?).

Russia poses little threat to our elections. It’s all bs, but millions now believe.
