Well... Iraq is a mess, they're rocked by one scandal after another, the polls show them as lower than an ant's knee cap and they're behind in far too many major races than they can stand....

So what's a right winger to do? That's right, kiddies.... Vote for us or... die. RAFLMAO!! Gotta love the smell of desperation. Oh... and someone tell them please... the daisy thing... been done before. :spank3: :tinfoil:

Republican's bin Laden Ad Sparks Furor
Party Hopes to Focus Election on National Security
Reuters
WASHINGTON (Oct. 21) - Republicans unveiled an advertisement on Friday featuring the image and words of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and a warning to voters that "these are the stakes" in the November 7 election.
The Republican National Committee ad, first shown on its Web site and scheduled for airing on cable television early next week, also includes images of al Qaeda fighters in training and other al Qaeda leaders.

"What is yet to come will be even greater," the ad quotes bin Laden as saying, before concluding with the words: "These are the stakes. Vote November 7."

President George W. Bush's Republicans, slipping in the polls from public dissatisfaction with the Iraq war, are fighting to retain control of Congress in the election. Democrats must pick up 15 House seats and six Senate seats to win a majority in each chamber.

Republicans hope to turn the debate in the campaign's closing stages back to their traditionally strong issues of national security and the war on terrorism, although recent polls show Democrats overtaking them on that turf.

Democratic Senate campaign committee spokesman Phil Singer called the ad a "desperate" effort to spur Republican voter turnout.

The bin Laden ad recalls one of the most famous American political ads, the 1964 "Daisy" ad used by Democratic President Lyndon Johnson in his race against conservative Republican Barry Goldwater.

It featured a small girl picking a daisy and a countdown to nuclear explosion before an announcer says, "These are the stakes."

Sorry there's no link... I can't link you to aol. But it's on aol and Reuters.

Fuck your link.

Who gives a shit away?

Just more left wing BS.

Please, something new, if you can.

Desperation is a funny color, and it doesn't "blend" with anything.:talk2:

So now Reuters is "left wing"? RAFLMAO! A bit out of touch, ain't ya?

When all you have is fear to sell... guess that makes it an important commodity, huh? :tng:

Oh...and to the mod who linked the Washington Post, thanks... but it's a Reuters story that seems to be picked up by a lot of outlets.

Now...perhaps there are some normal conservatives who can give some constructive input on why they think the ad is or isn't a desperate grasping at straws.... instead of just raging. ;)

That LBJ ad might be one of the most (in)famous political commercials, but it only ran once, now the Willy Horton ad, THAT was a keeper.

If he still can, watch OBL release another videotape next week to bitch some more about Bush, wonder if he realizes now that it's counterproductive?

Any focus on terrorism, national security, can only help the GOP, the MSM knows that, too. It's not that easy to make your opponents suppress their own votes, then there's that voter ID law.....

The "question" still stands jillian, something new, if that is asking too much.

As to "constructive input", we try, everyday we try, but YOU, and your handlers don't seem willing or maybe ABLE to understand just the basics of democracy. Ad's, my dear freind, mean NOTHING, AD'S are, have been, and will ALWAYS be propaganda, put any spin on that as you care to.

I stick to my original post.

Actually, according to the documentary I just saw on Barry Goldwater, he asked Johnson to stop the ad... said he'd sue him if he didn't. Johnson's campaign complied with the request.

I do agree with you that Bin Laden's videotapes have no import one way or another. I don't think they're counterproductive, I just think they have no effect on a single vote. And yes... the Willie Horton ad, though racist and unfair, was very effective.

Six months ago, I'd have agreed that focus on the WOT and national security would help the Repubs. I think at this point, short of something extraordinary between now and election day, people don't really believe this stuff any more... except for the base. And, interestingly enough, even that base is eroding.

I searched for a link to the article, with no comment. It would have been great if you'd have posted the reuter's link in the first place.

I have no handlers, dude... you, however, seem to be right on target with the GOP talking points. Isn't that kool aid turning your stomach by now? And if "fuck your link" is constructive... then I stand by my prior comments.

Nothing surprising here, typical leftist BS.

If I repeat something enough, SOMEONE will believe me.

Stand by what you will jillian, THAT changes NOTHING, in fact, if anything, it only supports what's been said time, and time again. Those that repeat the lies, and the deception, that is the reiterate of the left, are only repeating the lies, and goals, of the handlers, that dance to the socialist, that control the left.

This is a perfect example of what I said about the media attempting to influence rather than report.

Take this sentence......

Democrats must pick up 15 House seats and six Senate seats to win a majority in each chamber.

Democrats would need to pick up 15 House seats and six Senate seats to win a majority in each chamber.

Which is reporting and which is a sly attempt to influence?

Honestly, I think the media is as great an enemy to the Courtry these days as extreme Islam is.

Couldn't agree more Mr. P.

I think, the SOB's should be held accountable.

It's reached the point, where they are influencing public opinion, which, in my humble opinion is contrary to all that is REPORTING.

They ask, and receive protection, for their sources, yet, are not held accountable for the lies, and the opinions they report. Something ain't right here, and it ain't the color of the sunset.

Call a spade, a spade, but don't do it, if you can't back it up. Unknown souces indeed.

Actually, according to the documentary I just saw on Barry Goldwater, he asked Johnson to stop the ad... said he'd sue him if he didn't. Johnson's campaign complied with the request.

Yes, all I said was the ad ran once, didn't say why.

The ad was an appeal to fear, that's a powerful political tool. It usually overlty screams "negativity", these two fit the bill.

I do agree with you that Bin Laden's videotapes have no import one way or another. I don't think they're counterproductive, I just think they have no effect on a single vote. And yes... the Willie Horton ad, though racist and unfair, was very effective.

If OBL had any effect, it was to vote for Bush, there's no way to tell the actual impact, because it would be the greatest on the apolitical voter.

Willie Horton, on the line. Both these two ads were overkill IMO, the winner would have won with or without them.

Six months ago, I'd have agreed that focus on the WOT and national security would help the Repubs. It couldn't have changed that much over the last six months, anything foreign policy has always been a Republican issue for decades now. The Democrat Party base is always split by definition, the GOP base needs to be re-energized, the dominant party's getting fat and complacent.

Constructive input? OBL's a valid winning issue. It'll all depend on the turnout again, the Senate will remain GOP, unsure on the House.

The media and its mindless mouthpieces willing to pass on their garbage.

I have to take issues with the premise of the original post. We keep hearing "Iraq is a mess." How so? Any reasonable comparison between Iraq and past wars shows that Iraq has been an unprecedented success.

Its just like that "Bush lied!" crap. You guys can yell it all you want. But you havent even attempted to back it up or show what standards you are using to determine your opinion. Its getting ridiculous. You cant have intellectual discussions with people who refuse to give any sort of justifications for their claims.

Oh and what the heck is the problem with pointing out that if we dont fight back we are going to be dead? Its true! We are at war whether we fight it or not. We either fight it to win and risk dying, or we do nothing and definately die. You people want to pretend as though its all our fault and if we stop fighting they will somehow see how nice we are and stop fighting back. it just doesnt work that way. If we stop fighting they will see weakness and go in for the kill.

You would think we would have learned from the lessons in Vietnam. We stopped fighting and the communists over ran southeast asia with killing fields. millions of people were murdered because we didnt stand our ground. Contrary to what some of you might think, we are the good guys, and evil will win if good men do nothing.

I still like the wolves ad from 2004 myself.

libspeak: perpetuate the lie until people believe it's the truth.

This isn't about winning or losing a war, whether or not it's right or wrong, it doesn't even matter if our very existence as a society is at stake. A loss in the Mideast quite simply will be the beginning of the end for us as a society.

This is about shortsighted fools who think their brand of extremist politics is more important than the future of the world, and Western society in particular.
