Deputies called to remove campaign workers - Politics - Wire - Kentucky.com

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- State and local officials say backers of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul have been removed by sheriff's deputies from an eastern Kentucky polling place after complaints that they were harassing voters.

Officials say Paul supporters were also asked to leave precincts in another county Tuesday while conducting exit polling.

Paul's campaign manager, David Adams, called the allegations "dubious," saying Democrats may have been behind the incidents.

Secretary of State spokesman Les Fugate said voters complained of harassment and electioneering by Paul supporters in Laurel County and exit polling in Jackson County. Secretary of State Trey Grayson is Paul's primary opponent on the ballot.

Laurel County Clerk Dean Johnson confirmed that deputies were called to remove Paul supporters from a polling place and the incident remains under investigation.

Looks like this is going to be a fun one in Kentucky.

I think it more likely that some Grayson supporters wanted to cause problems for Rand's campaign than the Democrats having anything to do with it at this point. But exit polling is perfectly legal and legitimate, Grayson is just going out kicking and screaming.

I wonder if Holder will have their charges dropped if indicate they are willing to plead out.

I've been watching the Kentucky race very closely, because I'm excited that it looked like Rand Paul would upset the party's establishment big time.

I'm a little bit concerned from what I've been hearing though. Not only with the Rand Paul supporters allegedly harassing voters but with the low turnout.

We were told that the tea party folks were ready to come out in droves to prove that they were willing to put their money where there mouth is and VOTE for their principles. I've been watching the movement from the sideline, and today is the day they have the opportunity to show that they actually have values that they are willing to go out and vote for.

Rand Paul is the respect threshold. Are they willing to vote for what they claim to stand for? Arkansas seeing voters pour into those polls... we'll see what that means about the liberal base too. This is very interesting.

Its the same as the Tea Bagger argument...

"We are not responsible for our actions.....must be some infiltrators trying to make us look bad"

Rand Paul campaign response:

Charles Merwin Grayson III, in this, his Last Stand, has escalated his campaign of lies and distortions about the Paul campaign. Grayson, who is the Secretary of State and Chair of the Kentucky Board of Elections, and therefore charged with the monitoring of the election laws, has obviously attempted to signal poll workers who work under his authority to prevent the Paul campaign from engaging in legal and constitutionally protected activities to assure a fair and free election. – a task Grayson should applaud.

Right Now - Ky. Senate campaign: Paul says Grayson is 'ignorant' or 'lying' about vote fraud

The upswell of support for Paul was quite significant in the final weeks of the campaign.

If he indeed pulls this off, yet another indicator of the conservative momentum sweeping the nation heading into November 2010.

And make no mistake - this sentiment is not simply "anti-incumbent", but rather anti-liberal/anti-Democrat/anti-Obama.

The sleeping giant of that is the Silent Majority is indeed awakening, and the power it has upon the ballot box results will prove considerable...

Fox news through the Jason Lewis Show just confirmed Rand Paul won. Sea change or the tide rushing out for a tsunami of conservatism hitting DC come January?

Trey Grayson, Paul's opponent, called for Kentucky Republicans to "rally behind Dr. Paul," so Trey has officially conceded and Rand Paul is the Republican Senate candidate from Kentucky.

well, here we potentially go. Will Rand Paul run as a conservative, or will he wishywash out?

We will see put to the test the belief espoused by Rush and Hannity for years, if this is the case, that running as a conservative will cause a landslide. Or if the libs will smoke him like a herring.

If he's anything like his father then he'll hold firm to his principles in the general election, just as he did in the primary.
