Soros fails to quash insider trading conviction

George Soros, the billionaire hedge fund manager, has lost a case at the European Court of Human Rights to have his criminal conviction for insider dealing quashed.

The failed appeal in a 4-3 decision by the Strasbourg-based court is the latest twist in a nine-year battle by the 81-year-old Mr Soros to clear his name following his conviction in France in 2002.

The French criminal case hinged on trades that the Hungary-born investor had executed 14 years earlier in the stock of Société Générale that reaped his hedge fund, the Quantum Fund, $2.9m in profits.

Mr Soros was found by the court in 2002 to have had inside knowledge about the intentions of a group of super-wealthy French investors – the “golden granddads” – to bid for the bank.

Although the bid failed, Mr Soros’s fund profited by buying shares before – and selling after – the group’s intentions became public and resulted in a spike in SocGen’s share price.

If you want to protest a rich fat-cat this is the one behind our economic woes.

Word to the wise.

Gotta love the French. :clap2:

Collapsing economies for profit should be treated as a International Crime for which the perps should face life in prison.

I'd settle for taking their money and using it to pay off the debt.

Obama should like that idea.

Insider trading is de rigueur if one wants to be a master of that wall street universe.

Would it surprise me to learn that Soros benefitted from insider information?

It would surprise me much more to learn that any billionaire investor hasn't.

Someone "objective" would be bemoaning the corrupting effect of corporate money on politics and would be doing thread after thread about these guys, too... particularly since they're selling to enemies... but it's the tea party funders, so it's ok, right?

Tea Party Financers... illegally making a fortune from Iran...

In May 2008, a unit of Koch Industries Inc., one of the world’s largest privately held companies, sent Ludmila Egorova-Farines, its newly hired compliance officer and ethics manager, to investigate the management of a subsidiary in Arles in southern France. In less than a week, she discovered that the company had paid bribes to win contracts.

“I uncovered the practices within a few days,” Egorova- Farines says. “They were not hidden at all.”

they then promptly fired the compliance officer who discovered their illegal activity saying she was "incompetent".

I don't believe in relative morality. What one did wrong is not excused by another's actions.

Btw....if you want to play this game.......

Were they convicted of anything after all of these accusations???? Environmental laws???? Give me a fucken break.

Did they visit the White House personally during the Bush years???

Do they own various media outlets and blogging sites supporting the GOP????

Did they make billions of $ off of the banking collapse like Soros did???

Is their worst crime showing support for the Tea Party movement????

Try finding something that is at least close to Soros.

Paying bribes.... not a good thing and definitely illegal.

Deliberately destroying the economy of whole fucking countries for profit.... apparently that's ok because it's not technically illegal... but it's a crime against humanity.

Did anyone die because of the actions of the Koch Brothers? No.

Did anyone die because of the actions of Soros? Yep.

Did anyone lose their homes because of the actions of the Koch Brothers? no.

Did anyone lose their life savings because of the actions of the Koch Brothers? No.

What economies did Soros wreck? What did Soros do to cause people to die? What did Soros do to cause people to lose their homes? Who lost their life savings because of Soros?

I have already listed this crap at least twice on this site. I am not in the habit of repeating myself.... (unless it is to call someone a 'fucking idiot'.)

I suggest you find out about this guy.... the real shit - not the PR crap. You might start with the part he played in the economic collapse in Great Britain in the 1990s. In England, they call him 'the man who broke the Bank of England'. Now, breaking a bank.. meh, whatever... bankers - who cares. But tens of thousands of British homeowners paid hugely for that clusterfuck. He wiped out billions from the savings and pensions of Britons. It took Britain and it's people years to recover - some people never recovered. They died broke because of that man and his cronies.

The left wing make me sick with their ranting about the Koch brothers... who I have no respect for whatsoever... But it is laughable that they scream about them while taking money from Soros.

That man is one of the most evil people to walk the planet.

Are you sure about that? You might want to redo your research.

Soros attacked the ERM. The pound was pegged in a band against the DM and was very overvalued. He and others shorted sterling while the BoE tried to defend it which caused the BoE to lose a billion pounds because Soros et al were ultimately right. In an attempt to keep the pound artificially high, interest rates were kept far too high, which was strangling the British economy. The fault was of the British government, not Soros. Soros did the British a favour by smashing the ERM, and making British goods more competitive. Major and Lawson lost face, but the pound did not trade back up to the peg again. Britain was in the same straightjacket the PIIGS are today. The economy picked up once the peg was abandoned.

Yea the Socialist/Progressive Democrat love affair with Soros is pretty grotesque. The man should be in prison. It really is too bad he completely owns the Democratic Party. They should know better.

I dont know why this dude doesnt just retire

Sounds like the excuse they came up with after the housing collapse.

If it worked in the UK it can work here....and did.

No.

Soros is an awful human being. The Democrats should have never hitched their wagons to him. Is all his money really worth it? The Democrats should re-think their relationship with him.
