I can tell you that unless you know the underlying data intimately (where it was gathered, how it was gathered, the criteria used to throw out outliers, the criteria used to quality 'good' data, etc.) statistics won't tell you much except what someone else wants you to see. That's the same problem with all these polls. They are based mainly what questions asked, how questions are framed, etc., and the human hand involved in conditioning that data to make a statistical model. And no, statistics are not all math.
