When the reporters asked Benjamin Franklin, what kind of country he and his fellow congressmen created for the people, he didn't say a democracy, he said "a republic if you can keep it".

It is a representative government. The Senate was not created to represent people. It was created to represent the interests of the states, thus only two per state regardless of the population.

Democracy was abhorred.

The only branch responsible for making laws that affect the people of the states are the ones structured to be elected by the people directly. There is no provision in Article II or Article III that grants decision making power over the citizens of the states, this not being directly elected.

The genius of our Constitutional Republic is that the people are subject solely to the rule of law, not men – as men are incapable of ruling justly, safeguarding citizens from the tyranny of ‘majority rule.’
