D.C. Lawmakers approve plan to pay people for not commiting crimes

This is insanity.

"Crime doesn’t pay.

But a new plan lawmakers just approved in Washington D.C. may be sending just the opposite message, as the City Council this week voted unanimously to pay people stipends merely for following the law.

"Under the bill, city officials would identify up to 200 people a year who are considered at risk of either committing or becoming victims of violent crime," according to the Associated Press.

Proponents say the plan is intended to dissuade criminals from becoming repeat offenders.

The exact amount they would get has yet to be decided. But reports say the initiative is steered by a similar program in Richmond, California, which pays its participants up to $9000 a year."
