Cruz 1, Ethanol Lobby 0

From the OP link:

Congress put the fix in when it mandated that ethanol be mixed into gasoline for no reason other than to play along with the Climate Change Hysteria Church.
Farmers in Iowa have been the disproportionate benefactors of this, which has turned many Republican candidates into unabashed champions of federal mandates while courting the votes of Iowans.

Ethanol was not added because of CC hysteria, I am not sure what the author is talking about. So since they get something fundamentally wrong it makes me wonder about the rest of what they have to say.

Gasoline containing up to 10% ethanol began a decades-long growth in the United States in the late 1970s. The demand for ethanol produced from field corn was spurred by the discovery that methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) was contaminating groundwater.[27][30] MTBE's use as an oxygenate additivewas widespread due to mandates in the Clean Air Act amendments of 1992 to reduce carbon monoxide emissions. MTBE in gasoline had been banned in almost 20 states by 2006. Suppliers were concerned about potential litigation and a 2005 court decision denying legal protection for MTBE.[citation needed] MTBE's fall from grace opened a new market for ethanol, its primary substitute.[27] Corn prices at the time were around US$2 a bushel.[citation needed] Farmers saw a new market and increased production. This demand shift took place at a time when oil prices were rising.
The steep growth in twenty-first century ethanol consumption was driven by federal legislation aimed to reduce oil consumption and enhance energy security. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 required use of 7.5×109 US gal (28×106 m3) of renewable fuel by 2012, and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 raised the standard, to 36×109 US gal (140×106 m3) of annual renewable fuel use by 2022. Of this requirement, 16×109 US gal (61×106 m3) had to be advanced biofuels, defined as renewable fuels that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50%.[15][31][32]

So the majority of Iowans are willing to screw the corn farmers of their own state for big oil corporations. No cure for stupid.

his position on ethanol is not all that unpopular if you look into it

It is one of the issues that I agree with him one. The people of Iowa on the other hand will elected members to Congress that will oppose Cruz should he become President. He could also lose the state in the general election.

I wonder how many who voted for Cruz really knows his stand on ethanol.
If they do then corn subsidies are not all that popular are they?

Of course they know his position on subsidies. It is a major issue to Iowans. Just like the people of Wyoming and West Virginia will know the positions of politicians when it comes coal.
