Cost of charging an electric car surges by 42% - with prices nearing the same as petrol

25 Sep 2022 ~~

The cost of charging an electric car using public charge points on a pay-as-you-go basis has risen by 42% in just four months, according to the RAC.
The motoring group said the average price for using the chargers has increased by 18.75p per kilowatt hour (kWh) since May, reaching 63.29p per kWh.
The latest figures show a driver exclusively using rapid or ultra-rapid public chargers pays around 18p per mile for electricity, compared with roughly 19p per mile for petrol and 21p per mile for diesel.
The rise has been blamed on the soaring wholesale costs of gas and electricity.

RAC spokesman Simon Williams said: "It remains the case that charging away from home costs less than refuelling a petrol or diesel car, but these figures show that the gap is narrowing as a result of the enormous increases in the cost of electricity.

Some 63% of respondents said the increase in home electric bills is contributing to them sticking with petrol or diesel models, while 10% stated it was the "main reason".

Commentary:
6 months ago, Tesla owners and everyone in media was gloating “look how cheap it is to operate an EV!”
Just use the electrical power plants to provide more, cheaper electricity.
To the left, electricity is the power source and not the end product. They completely forget that the main source of generation is fossil fuel, whether its LPG, Petroleum or coal.
Just imagine what their heating bills will be this coming winter. Nost of the U.K is powered by LPG and Electric.

This is what happens when you don't have a clear vision for the future. The Tories want to make money, so they don't care where their gas or oil or electricity comes from, as long as it comes cheaply.
They don't consider the political ramifications of being linked to a country like Russia.

Voters are even worse. They just want cheap. They'll vote in one government, vote out another on whims like Brexit, without any understanding of what happens later.

Am I supposed to be surprised? Doesn't anyone remember the great promise of diesel? When the big promotion of diesel came out years ago, not only were the engines much simpler (which actually isn't of that much value to the consumer), it was the way to go because in comparison, the fuel was dirt cheap! And why not being a much cruder, lower fraction of oil. Then after several years after a great many people had swung happily, greedily over and were now COMMITTED to diesel, the cost of it shot way up!

BLAMO.

So anyone who didn't wise up after that deserves to get nailed to the wall again buying into the next great scam, a battery powered EV.

Are you claiming that America gas a clear vision of the future?

When we all go to EV, just imagine how much electricity mail trucks, local delivery, long haul and all other vehicles will consume. Then all the businesses and factories on top of that will leave little power for the home owners. Homeowners will be on the bottom of the totem pole.

Go Green!

When it comes to energy, yes.

They destroyed OPEC as an effective cartel by invading Iraq, bombing Libya and removing the dictator and sanctions against Iran and Venezuela.

Obama, Bush... didn't really make a difference what party they were from, they all wanted the same thing.
