Have any of you considered the likely consequences of the US shooting down the Chinese balloon? Here is a logical thought sequence:
1. Was it accidental that the balloon flew over the US? NO
2. If not, what was its purpose?
a. to spy on US military installations in plain sight? NO
b. to provoke a reaction from the US? YES
3. What US reactions would be beneficial to China?
a. Hysterical saber rattling showing the US to be a war mongering nation? YES
b. Providing China with a pretext for shooting down foreign objects over its claimed territory? YES
4. Which external territories are claimed by China? TAIWAN and South China Sea
5. Would shooting down foreign objects aid a Chinese invasion of these territories? YES
6. With the US so invested in the war in Ukraine, would it willing and able to stop a Chinese invasion? NO
7. Given these circumstances, will the Chinese invade these territories? YES
8. What would be the consequences of a successful Chinese invasion?
a. Loss of a truly democratic and faithful ally of the US? YES
b. Chinese domination of the world's computer chip manufacturing capability? YES
c. Loss of free shipping routes and US military influence in Eastern Asia? YES

Please comment and/or provide your own analysis. It seems that the Chinese are playing chess while the US is playing checkers.

Can you explain #7? What territories? And 8A, what ally?

2B and 3B could have some bearing on the reason for the balloon.

TAIWAN (Taiwan Relations Act)

The overflights was clearly not accidental.

But the Communist Chinese aren’t playing chess or even Chinese checkers. They are simply using relatively inexpensive methods to continue their endless spying on us.

In practical reality, a U.S. satellite orbiting above the earth’s atmosphere in a geosynchronous orbit over a part of China is engaged in spying on them every bit as much as the Chinese lower tech balloon method. But actually putting an object in our airspace is obviously a lot more immediately threatening.

Our mistake (President Potato’s mistake, that is) was not shooting their balloon down before it made its overhead journey across the nation.

South China Sea invasion is already happening. Taiwan invasion/surrender (e.g., Hong Kong) within two years.

Thanks for being willing to put a date down. Most are not.

I will book mark this and if we are both on the forum in 2 years we will see if you were correct

Nice fictionally-based assurance.

Link?
First, the fact is that China has only resorted to peaceful means to take back that part of their country. And fwiw, they still are.

It's America that has acted proactively against China, and that calls to question the reason why?

Of America's 40 wars of aggression since the end of WW2 been all for the sake of saving the people of the victim country.

I can fins you some links but what more needs to be said? Something from you perhaps?

Anyone familiar with how Hong Kong was taken from China by the British wouldn't dare say that China is not 100% in the right to make demands on H.K.

IMHO, China could have righteously gone in with a bullet for each and every demonstrator and traitor!

And as with Taiwan, China waited patiently and peacefully to take back H.K., as per the agreement.

Did America have any righteous claim to Iraq, Vietnam, etc., etc.

So, because China has so far not used force to reclaim physical possession of Taiwan, “therefore,” according to you, they have “no plans” to do so.

You probably don’t recognize how stupid you now sound.

Link? Or maybe just be specific. In what precise way has America acted proactively “against” China?

Wars of aggression, duck? As opposed to wars of pacifism? It’s probably too much to hope that you can translate that abortion of a sentence into a real sentence.

Go fin a link.

Better yet, try to cobble some meaningful sentences together.

What can we think when unlike America there's no track record to say that China will invade. Do we discount China's track record of peaceful relations?
China has even acted with Kid gloves on the Tibet extremist element.
You probably don’t recognize how stupid you now sound.
I recognize that a lot sounds stupid to Americans who have witnessed it's country starting 40 wars of aggression since the end of WW2.

Would America tolerate similar interference in Puerto Rico?

Yeah, those bombs on Vietnam civilians had love and pacifism written all over them.

If you're going to get angry and start with the same tactics as C.A. the pissant, then you will be cut off. Reconsider your choice of behaviour if you want to talk to me.

The Chinese Communists forcibly kicked the Nationalists off the mainland in 1949. They have constantly threatened Taiwan ever since. The only reason they have not invaded yet has been the capabilities of the US Navy. With an excuse to shoot down foreign objects over its claimed territorial airspace, China can now credibly threaten Taiwan with invasion if it does not consent to Chinese dominion.

P.S. No nation is above using its military power to promote its national interests.

China defeated them and they ran for it.

No, China hasn't and that's the point.

The US navy hasn't been involved for most of the time. Only recently has the US threatened China.

You're stuck on conjuring up threat, as opposed to US slaughter of civilians in foreign lands.
P.S. No nation is above using its military power to promote its national interests.
No, many nations are very aware that using any defensive measures against the US will be met with terror bombing.

To you it's as if America didn't start all those wars.

Two questions spring to mind. What on earth is of any relevance in America to spy on? Secondly, does Biden know because China pulls his strings, he wouldn't want to upset his boss?
