An investigation by El Universal El Universal - Nación - La guerra secreta de la DEA en México found that between the years 2000 and 2012, the U.S. government had an arrangement with Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel that allowed the organization to smuggle billions of dollars of drugs while Sinaloa provided information on rival cartels.

Sinaloa, led by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, supplies 80% of the drugs entering the Chicago area and has a presence in cities across the U.S.

Okay, you can blame the Bush administration for part of this. Does that make you feel better?

People outside of law enforcement often misunderstand why this is a necessary evil. The tone of the piece is misleading. The U.S. Government is great at getting the better end of the "deal" in these cases. One man's immunity for 50 arrests and convictions. And the immunity often has limits that the informant violates and ends up in jail anyway.

Full immunity does not count toward future criminal acts. But Hollywood sometimes portrays it as such.

In a lot of these cases, the small time "informants" were later murdered by a cartel. The U.S. Government basically used them for as long as possible then cut them loose. Don't feel sorry for them.

This article illustrates how our foreign policy works as well -- the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

Mexico captures son of Sinaloa drug cartel boss 'El Azul'
Jan 23,`17 -- Mexican authorities say they have captured a top Sinaloa cartel leader's son who is suspected of running a drug distribution network and managing cartel finances.
National Security Commissioner Renato Sales announced the arrest Monday. He identified the suspect as Juan Jose with no last name given, and said he was arrested Jan. 19.

A federal official confirmed that the man is Juan Jose Esparragoza Monzon. The official was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Esparragoza is the 45-year-old son of Juan Jose Esparragoza Moreno, alias "El Azul," a top leader of the Sinaloa gang along with Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman and Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada.

Guzman was extradited to the U.S. last week. The whereabouts of Zambada and the elder Esparragoza are unknown.

Does it make you feel better to be a partisan hack, by refusing to accept the fact that the US citizens have been used as pawns for profit in the Drug War?
