We've all seen and heard the conservative dupes and their knee jerk reactions to any climate change science. They quote science of their own or most often they deny the scientific community's agreed upon analysis...but why? Why and how are our conservative friends duped?

I hate to sound like a conspiratist, but how does a climate change denier spell O-I-L?

Arctic Sea Ice Vanishes — and the Oil Rigs Move In

As Arctic sea ice melts to its lowest level on record, oil companies move in to begin drilling the far north.

Could the conservative dupes we all know be this easy? It appears they have been used time and time again for larger purposes having nothing to do with ideology or science -- it's profit. Profit.

:eusa_shhh: Don't tell anyone but the low sea ice extent was do to a really powerful storm that broke up the sea ice. Since then it is growing at record levels...And as you can see in the photo of the three subs at the North Pole back in 1987....that won't be happening again any time soon.

But don't tell anyone OK...

Ending Its Summer Melt, Arctic Sea Ice Sets a New Low That Leads to Warnings

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/20/s...-stops-melting-but-new-record-low-is-set.html

The apparent low point for 2012 was reached Sunday, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, which said that sea ice that day covered about 1.32 million square miles, or 24 percent, of the surface of the Arctic Ocean. The previous low, set in 2007, was 29 percent.

When satellite tracking began in the late 1970s, sea ice at its lowest point in the summer typically covered about half the Arctic Ocean, but it has been declining in fits and starts over the decades.

The AP/Star story says, “It sounds counterintuitive, but the Antarctic is part of the warming as well.” Really? Was this a surprise to some climate scientists and their models? Let’s see what the climate models said according to a study in the Journal of Climate:

“We examine the annual cycle and trends in Antarctic sea ice extent (SIE) for 18 Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 5 models that were run with historical forcing for the 1850s to 2005. Many of the models have an annual SIE cycle that differs markedly from that observed over the last 30 years. The majority of models have too small a SIE at the minimum in February, while several of the models have less than two thirds of the observed SIE at the September maximum.”

A study from Ohio State University titled “Antarctic temperatures disagree with climate model predictions” says “temperatures during the late 20th century did not climb as had been predicted by many global climate models.” Also, there has been “no increase in precipitation over Antarctica in the last 50 years. Most models predict that both precipitation and temperature will increase over Antarctica with a warming of the planet.”

In other words, the climate models predicted less sea ice in the Antarctic as well as in the Arctic.

the article was about how climate science and climate models were and are wrong about sea ice extent at both poles.

Don't panic yet Dante... Nature is STILL fighting for your side...

'Astonishing' Arctic Ice Melt Sets New Record : NPR

Yet, even in extremely warm years like this one, ice is still a force to contend with. Some of the key navigational passages never did open up this summer. And a chunk of ice 30 miles long is heading toward Shell Oil's drilling site in the Arctic Ocean. That has forced the company to move its rig out of the way, just a day after it started drilling.

Take that you evil con oilers..

deniers don't know anything else :( Take your heads outta the sand deniers!!!

Calm down man.. I gotta serious question for you...

Everytime you come in here with "denier" crap --- It's all about oil.. Do you really think there's anyone here doubting the CO2 theory of global warming BECAUSE they are so very fond of the oil companies??

I support free markets and I marvel at the fact that oil companies can produce a gallon of gasoline (in normal times) for about the same as a gallon of milk.. And that's after the states/feds get THEIR massive profit on gas... BUT _____ be aware that the investment I've made in understanding Global Warming and the AGW theory has NOTHING to do with support of big oil. Or big coal..

It does however tie into my offer to you to FIX GLOBAL WARMING tomorrow by building out 250 brand new nuclear plants..

We got a deal????

Come to think of it DotCom --- maybe it's YOUR gig to tie your anti-fossil wagon to AGW theory BECAUSE it works to destroy big oil.. Hmmmmm --- Maybe I'm not the one with ulterior motives after all...

it was your link, I just read it. do you now disown it? it seemed to clearly point out that the climate models were wrong for both poles. I find it rather disingenuous that the AGW alarmists have said for years that Antarctica was melting, yet now that is it pretty obvious that the ice is increasing they have switched their story to say that the extra ice is due to global warming!

is there any outcome that isnt claimed to be a sign of global warming?

I find it rather disingenuous that this point is explained again and again and again - on at least 4 different threads in the past month - and yet still keeps being raised as if it hadn't.

For the nth time - Antarctic is experiencing NET LOSS of land ice.

The significant loss of ice in western Antarctica is greater than the gain of ice in eastern Antarctica.

The gain of ice has been explained, and it is not difficult to find that explanation online. Especially not given it has been posted here so often.

Estimates of recent changes in Antarctic land ice (Figure 2) range from losing 100 Gt/year to over 300 Gt/year. Because 360 Gt/year represents an annual sea level rise of 1 mm/year, recent estimates indicate a contribution of between 0.27 mm/year and 0.83 mm/year coming from Antarctica. There is of course uncertainty in the estimations methods but multiple different types of measurement techniques (explained here) all show the same thing, Antarctica is losing land ice as a whole, and these losses are accelerating quickly.

Is Antarctica losing or gaining ice?
