It has nothing to do with the number of stories they had wrong, or how quickly they jumped on anything or anyone who supported America First. Trump was loud and confrontational, which weakened medias ability to control the narrative.

They were critical of Trump 24/7, many salacious stories were just lies. It was driven so constantly to the point that none of their stories were trusted.

When you go after someone whose policies make sense for average Americans such as protecting your southern walk-over, deregulation, confronting economic exploiters of allies and enemies alike, getting out of the Paris Accord, hitting China with tariffs, you are saying "those policies don't work for OUR donors, to hell with the countries success". It is the media that painted themselves as the enemy. Unelected at that.

Media drew a line in the sand and the divide couldn't be greater.

CNN analyst and New Yorker writer Susan Glasser blamed former President Trump's rhetoric for the plummet in GOP trust in national media over the past five years.

A new Pew survey shows only 35% of Republicans have at least some trust in the national media, just half of the 70% who did in 2016. On the flip side of the spectrum, 78% of Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents had at least some trust in national news, a partisan gap of 43 points. The gap is even wider between liberal Democrats (83%) and conservative Republicans (30%).

Glasser, the former editor of Politico, blamed Trump's anti-media rhetoric for the fall, writing, "The Trump years, in short. Turns out having a president who labels the press ‘enemies of the people’ makes a difference."

Credit..where credit is due. But to be fair, the right's distrust of the media has been building since Obama was elected and the alt-right rose out of the ashes that was the Tea Party.
And let's face it, most of America that goes into the voting booth to scratch down an "R" on the ballot, has no idea what they're voting for. They vote against their own interest election
after election...because they can't bring themselves to vote for anyone with a "D" next to their name.
