Clinton, Sanders and Progressive Racism
Only historical ignorance could explain black affinity for progressivism.
February 17, 2016
Walter Williams

Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders seek to claim the "progressive" mantle. Both claim the other is not a true progressive. Clinton teased Sanders as being the "self-proclaimed gatekeeper for progressivism." Bernie Sanders said that Hillary Clinton can't be both a moderate and a progressive and that most progressives don't take millions from Wall Street. But let's talk about the origins of progressivism. It's only historical ignorance that could explain black affinity for progressivism.

The Progressive Era is generally seen as the period from 1890 to 1920. President Woodrow Wilson, a leading progressive, had a deep contempt for the founding principles of our nation. Progress for Wilson was to get "beyond the Declaration of Independence," because "it is of no consequence to us." President Wilson implored that "all that progressives ask or desire is permission — in an era when 'development,' 'evolution,' is the scientific word — to interpret the Constitution according to the Darwinian principle; all they ask is recognition of the fact that a nation is a living thing and not a machine."

President Woodrow Wilson was a believer in notions of racial superiority and inferiority. He was so enthralled with D.W. Griffith's "Birth of a Nation" movie, which glorified the Ku Klux Klan, that he invited various dignitaries to the White House to view it with him. During one private screening, President Wilson exclaimed: "It's like writing history with lightning. And my only regret is that it is all so terribly true." When President Wilson introduced racial segregation to the civil service, the NAACP and the National Independent Political League protested. Wilson vigorously defended it, arguing that segregation was in the interest of Negroes. Booker T. Washington wrote during Wilson's first term, "I have never seen the colored people so discouraged and bitter as they are at the present time."

...

It is clear that today's progressives have the same constitutional contempt as their predecessors. I hope they do not share the racial vision. Black voters ought to demand, at a minimum, that progressives disavow their ugly racist past. They should re-label themselves to something other than progressives, maybe compassionate totalitarians.

Clinton, Sanders and Progressive Racism

I've never cared for the term "progressive" being taken up by the left. The paleo-progressives were centrist to center-right. I call myself a liberal.

Left wing racism and right wing racism are two different animals.

Right wing racism is more of the old fashioned, sitting on your porch drinking a Hamm's beer and scratching yourself, ignorant, simplistic, empty-headed, bigoted racism.

Left wing racism is more of a de facto racism. They divide people by skin color and single out blacks as "needing" extra help. Somewhere down inside, they have to know that this can't be right, they have to know that they're hurting blacks by isolating them, but they are consumed by White Guilt and want to "feel" better about themselves for protecting the unprotected. Very maternal. So they're more than willing to maintain this underclass status for blacks, and have now done so for generations, sealing the deal, setting it in stone. They complain that we can't treat people differently because of the color of their skin, yet they're absolutely committed to doing so.

Different sides of the same counterproductive coin.

HILLARY AND BERNIE: TWO FAILED CANDIDATES ON A BOOK TOUR

Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders burned through two sizable fortunes to lose. First Bernie lost to her. Then Hillary lost to Trump. Then they both commenced their book tours.

The Hillary and Bernie book tours are extensive. The books they're pushing are utterly uninteresting even if you agree with them.

...

Hillary seems determined to continue sabotaging the Dems by cashing in and reminding everyone of her existence. Bernie is still convinced that he can be president. So it's not surprising that his tour is steering clear of Vermont.

But neither of them have anything new to offer.

What do two failed candidates have to offer America? A lesson in failure.

one silver lining is that obama book sales might pick up again... because he's such a great writer.

ENEMIES LIST: HILLARY KNEECAPS BERNIE'S BOOK TOUR, PRESIDENTIAL BID
September 5, 2017

Daniel Greenfield

The Clintons have always carried around an enemies list the size of an unexpurgated 19th century encyclopedia. Hillary's latest book, What Happened (It wasn't my fault) is the closest they'll come to putting that list in print.

Apart from the FBI, the Russians and sexism, Hillary also blames Bernie Sanders for her defeat. How dare he, or anyone, oppose her in the election. He may have campaigned for her, but she never forgets.

She complains that he ran too far to the left of her...

...

1. Hillary is calculatedly attacking Bernie right during his book tour. This isn't an accident. And she's undermining any future presidential bid by him. The timing of their tours is odd. They're sucking each other's oxygen. Again. And it telegraphs that the hostility isn't over.

2. Hillary never stops to consider that maybe it was her financial issues that might have led to that attack, rather than Bernie mildly hitting her over her speaking fees. But Hillary is never responsible for anything. Not her corruption. Or her own irresponsibility. It's always someone else's fault.
