China is running ahead even as some arrogantly believe they aren't. If the U.S wants to follow Canada and others into obscurity, go right ahead. Americas global dominance that it once exclusively enjoyed is being challenged and unimpressive people and allied nations aren't helping your cause.

Wake up America. Please.

China plans to build its first base on the moon by 2028, ahead of landing astronauts there in subsequent years as the country steps up its challenge to NASA’s dominance in space exploration.

The lunar base will likely be powered by nuclear energy, Caixin reported. Its basic configuration will consist of a lander, hopper, orbiter and rover, all of which would be constructed by the Chang’e 6, 7 and 8 missions.

“Our astronauts will likely be able to go to the moon within 10 years,” Wu Weiran, chief designer of China’s lunar exploration program, said in an interview with state broadcaster CCTV earlier this week. Nuclear energy can address the lunar station’s long-term, high-power energy needs, he said.
China has ramped up its ambitions in space in recent years, sending probes to the moon, building its own space station and setting its sights on Mars. The plans have put it in direct competition with the US. NASA has a rover on the Red Planet and is seeking to return astronauts to the moon this decade for the first time since the Apollo program ended in the 1970s.

Both China and the US are spending billions of dollars to not just put humans on the moon, but also to access resources that could foster life on the lunar surface or send spacecraft to Mars.
In 2019, China became the first country to land a rover on the far side of the moon, and later brought back its first lunar samples. The base is intended to be the first outpost on the moon’s South Pole, an area scientists think is the best place to find water. NASA is also targeting that part of the moon. China aims to eventually expand the base into an international research station.

China possesses a vastly larger workforce than America can field. China is a modern technologically advanced super power in all rights. I believe China exports more goods than imports goods, correct me here If I am in error on this one. China definitely has its education & its military covered & up to speed from what I have read about those two subjects. From this perspective I'd say China is emerging to take the super power title #1. With our USA buried in hopeless debt not to mention straddled with a split constituency & battered from mega inflation I'd say China is currently leading our USA in just about all fields. America's best move is to take care of business @ home first like end the runaway debt spending & getting the unemployed employed. In short America has to get with the program or become China's puppet.

There is room in outer space and the moon for Russia, China and the USA, we may even start collaborating with each other.
:)-

Yeah, maybe this is possible.

Could any of these nations really trust one another though? Russia and China seem close but the U.S would be the clear outlier there.

If Jolly Old England could innovate and invest in space America would have a partner. Alas, like Canada their economy lacks innovation so that the domestic police state can thrive.

It's America vs China and Russia and the challenge has never been more daunting. The same people who tell us that the "liberal worlld order is at stake" have done their best to destroy the U.S, with some assistance from allies who they erroneously trust.

China is trying to build a new city near Beijing, and that isn't going very well. A base on the Moon.... their economy is tanking, the people are protesting, what are the chances?

The same chances as them running a Space Station or exploring the dark side of the moon? By 2030 only China and Russia will have Space Stations and the U.S will have to ask one of them for permission to use them, China has said no so far.

America was once THE global leader of all innovations, manufacturing high tech, pursuing new frontiers and the like. What is the global objective today?

Americans, lead by their intel, agencies have taken the position of "hope for the best (meaning, China not succeeding due to other domestic issues)". Not the best form of planning as Chinas military has been expanding, become more efficient with A.I and they are exploring space. Instad of leading you have decided to be "more like the average ally". Strong domestic control at the risk of lost talent will be your fate if you trust countries such as Canada and other laggards.

All those who wish to stifle MAGA are doing a fine job of watching China progress. It's Chinas purview that they will one day rule the planet and space. Who is going to stop their powerhouse, a few unhappy workers?

A space station has been done before, a robot on the Moon and Mars has been done before. The technology, the knowledge is all out there. They need to figure things out for themselves, but none of that was particularly difficult.
A station on the Moon is something else. Yes, in the 1960s and 70s the US put a man on the Moon, China can do that. However this is a leap further. They might just do it, however like I said, their economy is tanking, they have a huge military and policing budget, they have problems financing local government, a housing crisis and it might come to the point where the space race just isn't able to be funded.

We should of already had one by 1978

I wish them luck.
