China Is Sweeping The Oscars

Asians are at best 7% of the American population, and Chinese are 24% of that, so 5 out of 24 is a significant number of awards, and is obviously purposely biased. Chinese are even over-represented among the Asian award winners.

In 93 years of academy awards this is the first movie about Chinese Americans to win a best picture award. I would say it is well overdo.

However, academy award winners are chosen not by the Hollywood elite but rather the 10,000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science who represent every aspect of creating movies from producers to grips to costume designers, to actors, sound technicians, cinematographers, film editors, screenwriters, electricians, casting directors, more than 60 different skills that go into creating movies.

Nominees are nominated by their peers. For example directors select the list of nominees for best director and actors nominate actors for best actor. And the entire academy submits nominations for best picture and votes on the top 10 nominees.
