CDZ Charity is a failure of government - Discuss

Guy, you keep saying that... but the fact is, we lock up too many people. If guns and locking people up were the solution, we'd have the lowest crime rates in the advanced world, not the highest.

The most violent country in Europe: Britain is also worse than South Africa and U.S.
By James Slack
UPDATED:18:14 EST, 2 July 2009

Britain's violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed.

Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa - widely considered one of the world's most dangerous countries.
The figures comes on the day new Home Secretary Alan Johnson makes his first major speech on crime, promising to be tough on loutish behaviour.

The U.S. has a violence rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, Canada 935, Australia 920 and South Africa 1,609.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling said: 'This is a damning indictment of this government's comprehensive failure over more than a decade to tackle the deep rooted social problems in our society, and the knock on effect on crime and anti-social behaviour.

Welfare is a failure of charity. Depending on government is just plain failure.

In this story the tory minister is praising the efforts of foodbanks in helping folk to not starve.

But we pay taxes to live in a society where people are not going to starve. People should not be at the mercy of charity to put some food on the table.

Everybody pays taxes so they have a right to expect help when they go through bad times. Welfare has a dignity that charity has not got. It is time to move on from Victorian era social policy.

What do you get when you reward bad behavior? Think hard now!

You said hard Tammy will be back in 3 and 1/2 minutes

Well, just get rid of crime, then....or, get rid of courts and prisons. Shoot, WTH are you even talking about?

Let me help you out.

Other Industrial Democracies only lock up the truly dangerous people. They don't let everyone have a gun, they have fair living wages, they have socialized medicine and extensive welfare states. Prostitution is legal and they treat drugs addiction as a medical problem and not a criminal one.

Our country, we pretty much criminalize all sorts of behavior... we have a whole Prison-Industrial Complex, which employs 700,000 police officers, 400,000 correctional officers, 92,000 parole officers, and so on. It's big business... the taxpayers spending a lot of money to keep a boot on the neck of the poor.

Maybe it's time to try something different.
Talk is cheap when you say, maybe it's time to try something different. So more federal government and less state government, huh?
I see. comrade, just another socialist/communist with an idea for our great nation. :rolleyes-41:

you don't want to pay the taxes that will do what you want because you'll have nothing left after.

But like most people you probably want other people to pay higher taxes so you can get what you want without paying more yourself.
Taxation should be fair to all. Currently it isnt fair. There is something fundamentally wrong in a system where trump pays less tax than the girl who cleans his gold toilet every morning.

You have no idea what other people pay in taxes.

And life isn't fair and never will be. Only the naive and the retarded think it is.

and the only fair taxation is a flat tax where everyone pays the exact same rate but you don't want that either
You seem unwilling to debate the issue.
There is no debating with people like you

And besides that why waste time debating US policy with a foreigner?

And then what's the point of debating democratic policies with a person who allows himself to be the subject of a monarch ?

When one person gets millions from the government and the other gets enough to eat, the one who gets millions indeed should pay more in taxes.
What one person is getting millions from the government?

How is it not immoral then the expect taxpayers to bail you out of your bad business decisions?

I frankly wondered that in 2008 - 2009, when we bailed out AIG, Well-Fargo, GM, Chrysler and all the other places that made bad business decisions.

Socialism for me but not for thee.

As you know, the banks, whose rescue was initiated by President George Bush. All that money was repaid, in full, with interest, and ahead of schedule.

No it wasn't. It was repaid with other government bailout/welfare programs........as you know but you'll repeat the lie anyway.

Just one example.

Banks Paid Back Bailouts Instead of Lending More: Watchdog – eCreditDaily

We also paid banks interest on the money we gave them. Don't we all wish we could get such a sweet deal?

On the other hand, President Obama bailed out the auto unions. Chrysler is now owned by an Italian automaker so they are no longer one of the "Big Three". GM still owes us billions.

They do. Bush and Obama were both massive failures in everything they did.

The poor can't afford computer programs designed to take the money of the average Joe.

Every poor person in America has a smartphone and every library has free WiFi.

View attachment 406897

Every poor person does not and the programs the big investors use are not available for free. It's why I support a tax on trades.

And just like that, you make sure the middle class can't retire comfortably, or ever move UP the social economic ladder.

The middle class make few trades and a very small percent on a trade would not affect them at all.

No surprise from a far-left liberal. We're over $27 TRILLION in debt and oblivious to the world, the far-left wants to TAX MORE AND SPEND MORE. Who knew?

Odd, I noted tax but you decided to be dishonest with what I said. You have no soapbox to stand on either as Trump has only spent and went into massive debt. Is that what you support as the better way?

You miss the point entirely. How many people got their homes repossessed, got socked with huge interest rate increased, etc. so the Banks could "Pay back" the government? The banks got us into this mess, then they screwed working people after the government bailed them out.

Not a one of them went to jail.

You think this is a good thing?

But the GM Bailout put the focus on protecting working folks who actually make the cars, and you are horrified.

No surprise from a far-left liberal. We're over $27 TRILLION in debt and oblivious to the world, the far-left wants to TAX MORE AND SPEND MORE. Who knew?

Actually, we need to tax to meet our obligations.

The thing is, we should have been paying down that debt when times were good. Trump ran up six trillion in extra debt instead.

You guys keep saying cut spending. Okay, great. Here's a pie chart of federal spending. Let me know what you are going to cut. Assuming that you really can't touch interest, defense, SOcial Security or Medicare, what are you going to cut exactly?

It does need to be noted that none of them went to jail because Obama refused to hold any of them accountable despite his promise to do so.

Which is one of the reasons we need to shit can the tax code and start fresh

That the federal government is the largest employer in the country is a travesty.

We could easily cut the federal work force by at least 25% and contract out their services.
