CDC: Covid-19 greater threat to people ages 40 to 59, than people ages 60 to 79!

I do believe that politics are heavily involved in all of this. Can't hardly trust anything or anyone anymore.
Of course it is. Why do you think Trump wants to cut back on testing when he knows it's been the most valuable tool in finding cases to quarantine which prevents the spread of the virus. The more testing, the more cases will be found increasing the seriousness of the disease in the minds of the public which could hurt Trump's chance of reelection. A good president would be doing everything he could to increase the number of tests because it is in best interest of the nation to do so regardless of the election. However, that takes real courage, something Donald Trump would never be accused of.

We are testing people who have no symptoms of the virus, locking them away for two weeks, and finding out they never got sick! That skews your stats so badly they are useless.
The purpose of testing is finding positive cases so they can be quarantined to slow the spread of the virus. Whether they show symptoms are not is irrelevant because if they test positive, they can spread it. Patient Number 31 in South Korea Infected thousands with Coronavirus and had almost no symptoms. There are a number of cases of asymptomatic patients that are super spreaders. In fact the less symptoms a person has the more likely they are to transmit the virus to others because they don't feel sick.

Unfortunately, our president only aim is to stopping the increase in the number of reported cases and the surest way to do that is reduce testing, ignoring the fact that finding positive cases and quarantining them is one of the most power tools in stopping the virus.
We are testing people who are not sick, test positive, and never get sick.

My state has no COVID-19 deaths yesterday.
You'll notice that the narrative is not about the number of Covid deaths taking place now but the number of new "cases"! The reason for that is that the number of deaths from Covid is WAY down now so it's not scary enough! So the main stream media switches over to the number of new cases in an attempt to keep the economy shut down for just a bit longer!
Unfortunately, scaring people into doing what is needed to stop the spread of an epidemic is probably the most effective tool in controlling it. If people weren't afraid for themselves or their family, they would not be social distancing, wearing masks, or getting tested and infections and deaths would skyrocket. The idea that we can return to normal by just ignoring the virus is just plain dumb because people will not ignore it as the number of sick and dying rise.
The only numbers we should be fixated on is the number of people hospitalized with severe cases of Covid 19 and the number of people who have died as the result of Covid 19. Note that I said those who died AS A RESULT of Covid 19...not those who died from other causes but have been lumped into the Covid fatalities number because hospitals get paid more for those deaths!

The number of actual cases really isn't something to freak out over. We should have been exposing the healthy part of our population to this virus back at the start of the year. If we HAD then we'd be closer to having it run it's course! But people like you scared healthy people into self isolating and now that they are going out in public again...they're coming down with the virus anyways which means for the elderly and the infirm...it's still not safe to come out of isolation and won't be for months!
Health officials are most concerned with covid 19 hospitalizations because increases in hospitalizations are a strong indicator that the number of deaths will start increasing with a few weeks. Today 7 states are reporting increasing covid 19 hospitalizations compared to 3 states 2 weeks ago. Total number of new cases are not near as import as increases in percent of positive cases found in testing. This is good indicator of upcoming increases in hospitalizations.

During the first couple of weeks of March when hospitals were being slammed with cases and there was a shortage of tests, there may have been some cases that were classified incorrectly. Within a few weeks, hospitals had both nasal and blood tests to diagnosis the disease plus Covid 19 in the lungs is easily identified by CT Scans. Also the CDC issued a bulletin to hospitals stating that deaths due to Covid 19 should be marked "Due to Covid 19" on the 1st line under Contributing Causes and reported as such. I suspect only a very small percentage of the 122,000 deaths are incorrectly classified.

Scientist have determined an infection rate of 70% plus or minus 5% of a population will be needed for herd immunity to stop the spread of the virus. That means we would need to reach a point where about 238 million people have been infected in order to stop it. A far better plan than to do nothing and wait for herd immunity is do all we can to suppress the spread of the virus and push for a vaccine which now is looking like one will be available in the early part of next year. This approach would not only same lives over doing nothing and waiting for the herd immunity but will most likely be less of an impact on the economy because herd immunity could take years. There is also another problem with just waiting for herd immunity. Herd immunity does not exist for all viruses. We could be waiting for it come and never occurs.

This is why virologist and epidemiology don't recommend wait for herd immunity.

A vaccine may take many years to develop you know.

Scientists have been working on an aids vaccine for 40 years and still don't have one.

No vaccines yet are available for syphilis, emphysema or cirrhosis either. I don't think that locking up the economy on an indefinite schedule is any kind of a plan.

Initially, the idea was a 15 day lockdown to "flatten the curve", not indefinite to "find a vaccine"

The problem right now is the media to doing its best to increase alarm, even as deaths are decreasing.

There are vaccines for all of those diseases:

Syphilis - Don't fuck around!
Emphysema - Don't smoke!
Cirrhosis - Don't drink!

Exactly! Cases are like the common cold. You have a good chance of getting it, but not much chance of dying. I still wear my mask and maintain social distancing. THat is the smart thing to do!
A few difference. People don't go to the hospital just because they have a cold and they don't die from just a cold.

That's certainly true. But if you go into the hospital for a heart attack or alcohol detox and they test you and you are positive for COVID, you are still in the hospital for the cardiac or detox event and not "because" of the Kung Flu
But if you die from a cardiac event or a drug overdose and you're Covid positive...you WILL be counted as a Corona virus fatality...something that totally skews the real effect of this virus!
Probably not. People that die due to Covid 19 will almost always have serious damage to the lungs and will be experiencing respiratory failure and often fighting for breath. This process usually takes days or even weeks. Typically, an overdose results in the person gradually stopping breathing and it doesn't take that long. Any attending physician should easily be able to tell the difference. The death certificate would most likely list the overdose as the immediate causes death. And unless the covid 19 was pretty advanced, it might not even be mentioned as a contributing cause.

Just because a person test positive for covid 19 does not mean it will be listed as a cause of death. Under Contributing causes, Covid 19 would only be listed as "due to covid 19" and reported as such if the attending physical believed the person would have lived if he was not infected with covid 19. For a death to be reported as a Covid 19 death. The death certificate must say "Due to Covid 19" either as the immediate cause or contributing cause.

Coronavirus nouvelles is not like HIV. It is in the same family and has a genome very close to SARS for which there were vaccines developed. A couple were in a test phase when the need for the vaccine disappeared because it was isolated and controlled. So developers today do not have to start at ground zero. Development of many vaccines have been limited by availability of funds. That is certain not the case with this vaccine. There are over 50 vaccines being developed. One of the coronavirus researchers believes we're going have a problem of too many vaccines each with different side effects, costs, manufacturing challenges, required dosages, how long it protects a person, and how effective it is. Plus they are not all going to become available at the same time. And since they are being developed all over the world we may find some vaccines restricted.

Increasing alarm may prove to be a problem for the Trump campaign but certain not for our healthcare professionals who are trying to get the public to follow guidelines that reduce transmission. It's too bad the virus didn't hit after the election then we wouldn't have to deal with the election politics.

Well, except for the little fact that there is no herd immunity as people have had COVID-19 more than once.
First, herb immunity is depend on people developing an immunity to the virus after being infected. With over 2 million cases in the US (9.5 million in the world), a very small percentage have reported reinfection which upon research has determined most of the investigated claims are due to left over virus particles and faulty tests. Secondly, since other viruses of the coronavirus family have been shown to have herd immunity and the fact that the genome of this virus is very close to other members makes herd immunity an almost certainty, however it will take a few years for absolute proof. Till then, an assumption of herd immunity is certainly reasonable based known facts. If there was any real doubt of herd we would not have tens of billions of dollars of private investment going into 50 vaccine developments around the world.

I wear a mask if the situation calls for it, but no I haven't worn a mask except for a few times when the thing 1st got started. Other than that, well life has remained fairly normal for us around here in these part's of the woods.
You should have yourself tested so you will know how many people you may have killed.
Well I was tested during a check up, and just as I thought it was negative. Oh well, no blood on my hands today. Sorry to disappoint you, now go back and hide under your bed.

If you're someone that wants to see the economy stay in the tank then the message you're pushing is that cases are increasing in some places. If you're someone that wants to see the economy rebound then your message is that treatment of the virus has gotten much better and the number of people dying from Covid 19 is way down!

Just because a person does not die immediately from Covid-19 does not mean their out of the woods. If their lungs are scarred from the infection, they could potentially die from a lung condition a few years from now.

If you want to SAVE THE ECONOMY, you lock down until you have rid the population of the virus. That is what Taiwan and New Zealand did. The economy will NEVER return to normal as long as you allow the infection to spread.
If you lock down until you have rid the population of the virus there will be no economy left to save, U2Edge! We've lost thousands of businesses just during the three months that things were locked down...locking them down for months more would be utterly catastrophic.
I would imagine that it is a pretty tough decision for many governors to have to make. Keep the economy lock down and businesses will fail, families will face financial disasters, and some will not survive it. On the hand, opening up the economy will mean addition people will die. No matter what decision you make, the people that voted for you and trust you will suffer.
The decisions that have ruined the country have been to ignore the problem and to continue to not care about testing tracing PPE etcetera.Trump and the GOP have been nothing but incompetent greedy s*** heads for 30-40 years now......
Nevermind your beloved BLM rioters destroyed 70 testing sites. Oops.
Mayors made the mistake of letting them go for a couple of days after dark. The protesters and the rioters are two different people....
Mistake ?????????? Don't think it was a mistake. Try again.
