Taunting draws out an emotional response. That is why most people think it is common courtesy not to taunt and deliberately rile people. Taunt someone, and it is human nature to launch an emotional response.

However, many of us try to rise above the emotional response and make use of a more even, balanced response. We see Christ using this technique throughout his ministry.

Christians try to overcome blasphemy and adultery. An ideal for worship and love of God--and an ideal for human sexuality--are set before us. We strive to attain those ideals. We also strive to not judge those who fail (for whatever reasons) to meet the ideal. Christ advised us to avoid sin, to even avoid things that tempt us into sin.
