Canada's largest Indigenous police service hasn't shot anyone dead in 26 years

TORONTO -- In its 26 years of existence, officers with Canada's largest Indigenous police force have never shot and killed anyone and no officer has died in the line of duty, despite a grinding lack of resources and an absence of normal accountability mechanisms.

It's a record of which the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service is proud, especially in light of the recent uproar in North America over police killings and brutality involving Indigenous, Black, and mentally distressed people. It's a record achieved in communities frequently in social distress, places where hunting rifles and shotguns are ubiquitous.

The key difference from urban, non-Indigenous policing, insiders and observers say, is the relationship building between officers and the people they serve.

I'm not sure what you mean, Canadian police are killing people all the time, if they aren't killing their pursuit of liberty. How come native police aren't trigger happy?

Multiple reasons that should be obvious. One being cultural the other being demographics. How many different people are constantly moving on and off the reservation? (Non native, it does make a difference)............ Things remain rather static on a reservation and the biggest problem they usually have to deal with is alcoholics, why would they get "trigger happy" over that?

1. US gun ownership is almost FOUR times Canada's
..in the US, most criminals shot by cops are armed
2. US population TEN times the US
-US density is about EIGHT times more
3. US crime rate 43% more = police come into contact more in the US
4. the US has TEN times the police officers
5. there is NOT a problem of police killings or brutality in the US--you see--that's your problem---you read the MSM and believe them....you don't do a basic research
..I guess you would just let someone beat the crap out of you?????!!!!!!
..you don't know anything about the US
