Can Trump Save The Confederacy???

This will free up Sleepy Joe to rename Fort Bragg for WW2 hero Private Christine Jorgensen who was the first known homosexual to be bobbitized and say that made him a broad.
If only Christine was a neo-nazi lost cause sympathizer who waged war against her own country...

Then maybe you would be on board with naming something after her......

another loss for the racists.....so sad

This county has had a bi-partisan consensus against white racism since the early 60s. how long you going to be beating a dead horse and pretending that makes you brave?
But I thought the racists put Trump in power. How can there be a bipartisan consensus against racism then?

But now they elected a black woman VP.

The racists must be schizophrenic. What say you?

I recall once I was talking to a lib and he said that the reason Hillary lost was that America was sexist and would not support a woman for the office.

I pointed out to him, just a few minutes ago, you said that hillary WON the election and it was just because of the out dated electoral college that put TRump in, on a technicality.

So, I asked him, which is it?

THe guy's brain locked up. He could not answer. Literally.

"President Donald Trump is threatening to veto legislation to fund the military as one of his final acts in office unless a widely supported, bipartisan provision to rename military bases honoring Confederate military leaders is removed -- Since the Nov. 3 election, Trump has privately told Republican lawmakers that he won't back down from his position during the campaign that he would veto the annual National Defense Authorization Act if it includes an amendment to rename the bases. The effort to change the names of military bases honoring Confederate military leaders has been a target for Trump for months. While some Republicans are now shifting their positions to align with Trump, Democrats are refusing to budge on the agreed-to amendment, threatening passage of the legislation."

I believe Trump should totally take a stand for our rich and vast Confederate legacy, even if it means defunding the military -- our soldiers have fought to protect the Confederacy and the Democrats are trying to attack and disgrace our honorable Confderate generals -- I mean, the Democrats are trying to hide their racist past, yea, that's it!!
Here, let me cause you to piss your pink panties.
The confederates and General Lee in particular were american badasses....quite possibly America’s greatest heroes.
They assembled and went to war with a tyrannical government, one they felt was depriving them of rights. That’s BADASS!

The libs want to wage a war of extermination against the Southern Honky, only because he spurned them in the current day. Not because of "slavery" at all.

For the first 135 years or so after the end of the War of Northern Aggression, liberal southern honkies like the Clintons, Carters and Gores ruled and that was fine. Now, that those folks have been rejected, its time for the current white southerners to "pay", even though many are like my nephews and nieces whose ancestors were drinking and passing gas in the backwaters of the Austro-Hungarian Empire while the Civil War was waging.

Agreed. They are filthy liars, who cannot be honest about the reasons for their hate.

Hell there is another thread about some racist cops beating a black man for not wearing a mask. But it happened in France and the liberals in the thread have all the outrage of a... well something without any outrage.

Because they don't give a damn about black lives. THey just want to use anything and everything as a weapon to club their enemies with.
Every time the confederacy pops up -- here comes your bitch ass to whine about it......

It's like you folks can't get over the fact you lost..and will keep losing......

Lots of real Americans flew one of those flags ya lying bastard.

Actually it worked pretty well for about 150 years, until you modern libs decided you wanted to demonize and marginalize southern whites.
Generations of “forgive and forget” attitudes toward the Confederate Rebellion and the nationally accepted “Lost Cause” romanticization of the antebellum South didn’t “work pretty well” for the freed slaves in the South and their descendants.

With Reconstruction abandoned and white supremacy re-asserted, liberty rights for freedmen (and ultimately also for poor whites) were abandoned and not even “40 acres and a mule” was provided for their sustenance — blacks especially were forced back into economic slavery. Protest brought terror, arrest and the chain gang. Blacks were reduced to the status of a deeply oppressed race color caste, segregated and disenfranchised. Eventually Confederate flags rose again above Southern courthouses and State Capitols, and military bases were given the names of Confederate generals who had fought against the United States and in defense of human slavery.

There was no “forgetting” for black Americans in the Deep South (or even in the North and West). In the South especially, but really everywhere, they were forever being reminded of “their place” in society. In the South, where the great majority of African-Americans lived, there was 100 more years of legal segregation under Jim Crow law. There was also no avoiding Confederate monuments built all over the South, many of which still stand.

There is no “demonization of whites” or of the South involved in democratically voting to remove Confederate flags and monuments from courthouses and public squares. Nor is there in Congressional armed services committees and our multi-ethnic armed forces moving to change the name of military forts. Nor was there any demonization of Germans in removing Nazi flags. Nor of Russians in removing communist flags or statues of Lenin.

You should be proud of those men. But do not change history and say they were the reason we won World War 2. And that is what we have been seeing for the last 50 years or so. Rewriting things and demonizing people while at the same time a nation in decline..

Southern blacks don't define the nation, then or now. As a whole for AMERICA as a whole, the forgive and forget decision worked well at healing the wounds of the war and eventually those other issues were addressed without tearing the nation apart.

ANd yes, the removal of statues and renaming of bases is part and parcel of an attempt to demonize and marginalize southern whites.

The effort to change the names of military bases honoring Confederate military leaders has been a target for Trump for months.
The naming of U.S. bases after confederate commanders was an act of reconciliation between the states after the Civil War. Many of those commanders were part of the U.S. Army before the war and fought honorably as as such in the Mexican-American war.

Don't let your ignorant biases control your thinking.

What give you that idea?

The naming of U.S. bases after confederate commanders was an act of reconciliation between the states after the Civil War.
The naming of bases after Confederate generals and most Confederate statues were built much later than the immediate post-Civil War “reconciliation” period. Legal forced segregation was not ratified by the Supreme Court until the Plessy decision (1896). Most statues too were built after the turn of the century, as KKK power nationally and in Congress grew dramatically and resegregation took place in Washington D.C. This especially occurred under the first Southern born and raised President, the “progressive” Democrat Woodrow Wilson.

These were some of the darkest days for African-Americans. The First World War, the Great Depression, and the Second World War, with industrialization and massive emigration out of the South by blacks (and whites), saw the unresolved regional problem become more and more a pressing national one, but these dramatic changes allowed black Americans tenuous and temporary opportunities to improve their plight.

After WWII and up to today we have seen new phases of Cold War, rising U.S. financialization of a now global U.S. empire, and domestic de-industrialization, so that along with the important formal gains won by the modern Civil Rights Movement, real opportunities for upward social mobility proved fragile. A whole underclass of urban ghetto blacks was created. White workers also found it more difficult to rise in society, and now themselves feel ever more abandoned by an ever more powerful and confident capitalist Establishment.

Americans love to fight, insult one another, and hold onto their cherished sectional or racial or party grievances, but refuse to look at themselves clearly as many others outside of the U.S. bubble see them.

What does any of that have to do with the naming of the bases in question? You seem to be just listing stuff you don't like in proximity to the topic, as though it somehow supports your position, without explaining how.

De-industrialization has made upward mobility more difficult for everyone, not just blacks. And it occurred long after these bases were built or named, so, what does that have to do with the topic at all? For one example.

You're assuming post-Civil War reconciliation was a quick, one-time event. That's both incorrect and simplistic.

Even up to and after WW2, the military continued to foster reconciliation. The 29th Infantry Division is an example.

There are still cultural divides between North and South, but where does our military get most of its personnel? If you want to shit on any manner of Southern military prowess, good luck meeting any recruiting numbers.

One question do you know the name of that flag on the left?

The flag on the left is not the Confederate Flag and actually it was incorporated into the Confederate Flag near the end of the war but it was the Battle Flag of a General that his family donated the land we bury our soldiers on in Virginia...

So those that waving that flag may not know that either but the fact is it amazes me how fucking ignorant many people are when it come to the North and South war and how many are trying to rewrite history to fit their political agenda!

This discussion is not really about the re-naming of military bases, which without doubt will happen sooner rather than later, one way or another. Most members of Congress already know that the names of bases that are vestigial hangovers from the Jim Crow Era must and will go.

Even less is this about “Can Trump Save the Confederacy?” The Confederacy is long gone. It can’t be “saved.” Nor can it be reborn. Trump himself is about to go. This is a classic troll query. The proper way to respond to it, in my opinion, is not to try to answer it but to undercut its false assumptions. This requires putting all the related history in a proper context, which is what I’ve tried to do. How can you be so blind as to imagine I am just “listing stuff that you don’t like”?

In my opinion you are trying to turn back the clock to “Save the Confederacy” & “Save Trump” at the same time. You fanatically and unrealistically attack and wish to block the renaming of these forts. This renaming is really a small thing in itself, but it is symbolically important. It better reflects our military’s present integrated reality, our ideals, and the only possible basis for a genuine and lasting consensus of reconciliation.

Except we had a lasting reconciliation. Your side is all about demanding permanent marginalization of any opposition or dissenting voices or groups.

Whites, moving forward, even if not a majority, will be the largest single ethnic group for the foreseeable future.

A society where they are to be treated like second class citizens and expected to cow tow to their betters constantly,

is not going to be a nice society for anyone to live in.

A society where [whites] are to be treated like second class citizens and expected to cow tow to their betters constantly, is not going to be a nice society for anyone to live in.
Of course neither whites nor any other group should “be treated like second class citizens and expected to cow tow to their betters.” “Renaming these forts” has nothing to do with this, but everything to do with treating every group and race equally.

Those are Union soldiers.
Wrong!
