This is a fair point. So far DeSantis has not engaged with Trump, and seems to be doing well with that strategy. He may do the same in any debate they attend together.

One difference may be the media this time (or not). They gave Trump billions in free air time, announcing every little blurb he made. I am not certain they will do that now, as they haven't since he lost. Another point to remember, he merely did ok in the debate. His strategy was always to say something outrageous right after to take the focus away from the debate and onto himself. But he's done that so much I think the media and the populace have gotten immune to it.
