There are many similarities between Canada and the USA.
Both countries have the same colonial history.

Both countries are nations composed of descendants of immigrants.

I'm a dual citizen currently residing in Canada and I'll tell you right now no one wants your freaking debt. My Conservative government is very close to a balanced budget coming out of the recession.

Canada is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, has one of the most powerful militaries in the world, and has friendly relations with the most powerful country in the world. Why would they want to merge with the US? They have their own thing going, and it's working for them.
