California woman, 91, armed with shotgun, dies after being shot by deputies

It's a shame this happened, but we don't know much about the story yet: how close the police were to her, what she said if she said anything, if police were close enough to their cars to retreat and shield themselves from possible gunfire, if she was legally blind, how did she know somebody was out there, did the police have body cameras on, we just don't know.

Yea, but it was probably a coincidence she pointed the gun at the cops and she was moving around several areas trying to scare away what she thought was an intruder. She was pointing the gun in many directions.

No doubt and anyone with common sense(not the police of course) would very likely have noted that plus her age etc.

She should not have been wandering around if she is deaf and cannot see. She should have waited for the cops and let them handle it since there was no one threatening her.

What the hell?

They were met by Francois. She came out the front door of the home armed with a shotgun, officials said.

"Deputies gave her commands to drop the gun, then she pointed the gun at the deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred," according to the release.

It's okay, she was only white.

Had she been the superior race, we would totally be rioting.
Of course......race.

In the United States, the police may enter your property in one of two ways - you invite them, or they have a warrant.

The San Bernardino Sheriffs certainly didn't have a warrant, no indication she invited them.

They had no right to be on her property and then murdered her for defending herself.

That's no okay.

According to what I read, she was the person that called the cops to her home. She's the one that stated somebody was trying to break in.

I guess the moral of the story is never call the cops.

It goes beyond that....do your best to avoid cops at all times....they are a ever present danger. Never had a pleasant experience with one...most of them are control freaks....complete assholes.

If that is the case, what is the common denominator in this equation? Perhaps you are the control freak and complete asshole?

The old lady had called police about an intruder and was carrying the gun because she was fearful, but she most likely didn't know the police were there since she was legally blind and deaf.

" Susan DeLemus, a relative of Francois, told the Daily Press on Monday that the woman was legally blind and deaf."

This is how they are trained. They hire people easily trained this way. See a gun, FIRE. See a cell phone FIRE. See nothing? Fire and say you thought you did.

This is why there are protests and demand for reforms. The cops murdered her.
Indeed there should be protests and demands for reform, like banning all personal weapons and try becoming a civilised country. - It will definitely cut your disgusting 40,000 death per year from firearms horror.

They didn't just shoot her. Sounds like they emptied their guns unto her.

In the video, which shows the man's driveway and does not show the incident, a single gunshot can be heard. That shot is then followed by at least eight to nine additional shots, some sounding as though they occurred simultaneously.

Police previously called to Spring Valley Lake home of 91-year-old who was fatally shot

If there were actually eight or nine shots fired, that will come out during the investigation.

I wonder why we don't have video by now?

Police don't release any evidence during an investigation, and apparently none of her neighbors had video cameras on their home.

Video was quickly released in the murder of Andre Hill.

The police had been there twice last year and should have known her situation and condition.

If the exact same officers were there, yes. At least where I live, the Sheriff's department is county, and officers that are working one area today can likely be in another area tomorrow.

Even if they did know, we still don't understand the officers exact situation just yet. After all, if this was a 30 year old woman, nobody would question the response by the officers.

Of course we would with the absence of video. It's why we have insisted on it. Cops have a history of lying about what happened.

A history of lying? Why is that, because out of the 700,000 police officers in the United States, you hear about two or three cases a year?

No, if this was a 30 year old white woman, nobody would be paying attention to the story right now. A 30 year old woman came to the door, pointed a shotgun at police officers, and they fired in self-defense. A one day story at best and certainly not a national story at that.
