California Implosion Continues

Left destroy everything they touch.
And they wonder why inner cities are food deserts.

Grocery chain Kroger said it closed down two California stores Saturday after the Long Beach City Council approved a COVID-19-related “hero pay” ordinance that increased wages by $4 per hour.

The pay increase, mandated in January, was for workers who were employed at pharmacies and retail stores with 300 or more employees in the Southern California city.

People working at those stores face a threat. Mostly from anti masker assholes & other right wing morons who refuse to follopw COVID guidelines.

So basically 600 plus employed “heroes” just saw their wages not go up by $4 an hour but their entire paycheck just went to $0. That’s a hell of an income swing on those least able to afford it. And there are now another 600 plus newly jobless and who knows how many new illegals all competing for what other jobs may be out there.

Well done democrats.

So California didn't impose mask restrictions on all businesses?

The stores that are closed had a very thin profit margin due to robberies and shoplifting. A $4.00 an hour raise means that the store would be operating at a loss. The activists insisting that the stores remain open are saying that because the company makes a profit overall, they can afford to operate stores at a loss. No business will operate at a loss. The stores were right to close.

The impact of Amazon Fresh shopping also probably had a rough impact on the margin. I know I switched to using Amazon and haven't switched back because tbh its just too damn convenient.

Amazing how the left never sees that every time they put one of these ridiculous wage increases into effect, jobs are lost and businesses close. This seems to fit the definition of insanity. Keep doing the same thing over and over hoping for that different result that never materializes.

Damn right!

The last thing America needs is a well paid workforce!

Stop importing illegal aliens who drive down the wage rates and lo and behold wages will increase.

Government is so stupid, and people like you are so ignorant, that you can't add 2+2.

If Amazon Fresh was in those neighborhoods it wouldn't matter that those stores closed. These areas are food deserts. Without these stores there are no stores. Amazon Fresh is invited to open an outlet in high poverty and crime neighborhoods.

No they don't. Your propaganda falls on deaf ears and has been proven wrong. Quit repeating the lie.

Both of those stores are now closed and Kroger is closing 3 more in Los Angeles because they did the same hero pay garbage.
Gods forbid they pay a decent wage for coming in during a Pandemic.

If the person's wages exceed their added value to the end product or service due to this law, what is Kroeger supposed to do?

Supermarket margins are extremely thin, should they operate at a loss?
Are you saying that Grocery store workers, coming in to keep up supplies during a pandemic are not worth it? I guess they all could have stayed home. That would have been fine since they weren't really that important in your eyes....
Are you saying grocery stores should operate at a loss? They were paid $18.00 an hour and with benefits $24.00 an hour. That seems pretty high for retail work. Kroger offered the employees work at other locations that did not impose an artificial wage hike. What Kroger pays is likely market to above market wages.

Scanning cans of beans is not a workforce lol. It is a job that a grade schooler could do. These jobs are not supposed to be a career path.

When did you manage a payroll?
People should be paid what they are worth....and in a Pandemic, if they risk more and are worth more (and grocery store workers were definitely worth more) their pay should reflect it.
The increase of 4 dollars is what those skills are worth.
Just the 4 dollars.

My grandson and I goto self checkout and he scans then pays. He's SIX

Groceries would be nice. Oh well, they will just have to hop a few more busses to get some milk.

Not anymore.

Unemployment compensation for simply being unemployed in an at-will employment State is more market friendly and ensures full employment of capital resources in our market based economy.
oh geezus here we go....danny and his pay someone who does not want to work bullshit....just because they dont have to work if they dont want to.....and yet still get unemployment....
