Right coast, classified
Left destroy everything they touch.
And they wonder why inner cities are food deserts.

Grocery chain Kroger said it closed down two California stores Saturday after the Long Beach City Council approved a COVID-19-related “hero pay” ordinance that increased wages by $4 per hour.

The pay increase, mandated in January, was for workers who were employed at pharmacies and retail stores with 300 or more employees in the Southern California city.

Amazing how the left never sees that every time they put one of these ridiculous wage increases into effect, jobs are lost and businesses close. This seems to fit the definition of insanity. Keep doing the same thing over and over hoping for that different result that never materializes.

Damn right!

The last thing America needs is a well paid workforce!

This is what you get when you elect people who have not a clue about economics or business. Now these people will reap the repercussions of their ignorant decisions. The entire west coast is engulfed with this absurdity and stupidity.

Kroger should close all their Cali stores and move out of the state. They are in all the other states so I doubt they would feel the pinch of lost revenue.

So you pay someone $20 for $10 worth of goods or services?

They never realize that if you force someone to pay $15 an hour, employers will hire only people worth that $15 an hour. So the low skill person they were trying to help gets laid off and ends up with the True Minimum Wage, $0.00

Both of those stores are now closed and Kroger is closing 3 more in Los Angeles because they did the same hero pay garbage.
Gods forbid they pay a decent wage for coming in during a Pandemic.

If the person's wages exceed their added value to the end product or service due to this law, what is Kroeger supposed to do?

Supermarket margins are extremely thin, should they operate at a loss?

Are you saying that Grocery store workers, coming in to keep up supplies during a pandemic are not worth it? I guess they all could have stayed home. That would have been fine since they weren't really that important in your eyes....

When did you manage a payroll?
People should be paid what they are worth....and in a Pandemic, if they risk more and are worth more (and grocery store workers were definitely worth more) their pay should reflect it.

I went back to work starting in May 2020, and took a 4 hour per week cut to subsidize those who had to bill overhead.

The issue is local politicians spending other people's money to without understanding basic economics. Kroeger's margins couldn't survive the increase, so they closed, and now the workers have the true minimum wage, i.e. $0.00

When did you go back to work work, or do you have some cushy government job you can pretend to do from home?

Lol, it was the state govt that created division and labeled people "essential" and "non essential". Derogatory terms. Big box stores flourished while small business was killed. That was fine in your eyes.
