Breaking News: Herman Cain has endorsed Mitt Romney.

If that's news to you, it's because it happened four years ago. Thanks to Conor Friedersdorf at The Atlantic for the reminder that everything old is new again.

Cain, who emerged this week as the latest alternative to a Romney nomination, had only good things to say about his competitor in a February 2008 syndicated column. Romney, he wrote, would "focus on the right problems."

"Romney has done that as a chief executive officer in business, as a governor and as head of the U.S. Olympics," Cain wrote, "while balancing political consequences, but not compromising fundamental principles of the founding of this country or free-market economics."

Add that to Rush's evaluation of Romney in February 2008:

"I think now, based on the way the campaign has shaken out, that there probably is a candidate on our side who does embody all three legs of the conservative stool, and that’s Romney."

Romney's other supporters from 2008 included:

Rick Santorum, Sean Hannity, Bill Bennett, Mark Levin, Dennis Prager, Glenn Beck, Hugh Hewitt and Laura Ingraham.

yeah. Alot seem to have forgotten that. But then the nation has changed sine 2008. And not for the better. We have changed.

I dont begrudge anyone who has changed their mind.

But you have to put that in something called "perspective".

In 2008, Romney was probably the best selection for their slice of the party. Huckabee was feared because he was an economic populist. The scariest thing in the world to the GOP establishment is conservative populism, especially when it has an evangelical bent. So Cain and Romney and Limbaugh and all the other folks who live in mortal fear of the working stiffs of the country had to stop this guy at any cost.

Even if it meant backing a sure-fire loser.

Except in 2008, everyone realized the Android from Planet Kolob was a sure-fire loser. He came in third. So they eventually all held their noses and voted for McCain.

And if you are conservative like you claim you are, aren't you just a little disturbed by Welfare for Broadcasters Queen Gwen Awful endorsing your boy?

Not sure why it matter. Cain wasn't a Candidate 4 Years ago. What are you implying? That Because Cain Endorsed Romney 4 Years ago, that means Romney is a better candidate?

Absolutely.

I have problems with Romney as well. But come on man, I would take Romney any day of the week over another 4 years of Obama.

Romney hasn't changed substantially from his positions in 2008. So I find it intriguing how people have changed their opinions about him. Case in point: Limbaugh.

I also find it intriguing how many people call Romney a RINO and worse but love the people who endorsed him in the recent past.

That's what I thought. She didn't. Thanks.

So once again, you avoid the question.

I understnd completely. That's the last thing you want people asking.

Why is the MSM soooo hot for Romney.

It ain't his sexy, sexy magic underpants.

It's because 1) they know he's really a liberal and 2) they know Obama can beat him pretty easily.

But you guys will keep trying to shove this mutant down out throats and wonder why none of us will show up for him next November.

Frankly, I think Romney would be worse. The nice thing about Obama is that he obligates the GOP to fight every socialist thing he proposes tooth and nail.

Put Romney in there, and some of those things will get through. Romney is a surrender to Liberalism. He's admitting the liberals are right.

He's a repudiation of social conservatism and the TEA movement.

And the "He'll be good for business" argument doesn't fly for me. What would be good for business is stop conceding stuff to big corporations that have no loyalty to this country.
