Sounds awful, but all I can ask is, "why TF was she going over to a country we're at odds with?" Due to whatever reason, we'll have to give up an arm's dealer and murderer for a trade we promised not to get into! We overlook these minor details! Regardless if she broke the law or not, why even go to Russia while they're bombing TF out of Ukraine where lives are being lost? Her family needs to look at the big picture! Typical of the USA we can't see the forest for the trees! :itsok: :omg::stir::rolleyes::confused:

"Eff around and find out". It thought it was so clever to sneak a little vape pen full of THC into Russia. It had the world in it's hand. Rich, famous and touted by the LGBTQ+ community as a hero (for kneeling during the national anthem). Now look. It wanted to live in a socialist country...and now it does.

Im confused by the narrative/expectations surrounding this story for a number of reasons.

Let me say that I want this woman to be returned to the US swiftly and safely. She's a US citizen, and our government should be working to get her returned home.

That said.

1. She did break the law (Russian law) allegedly by having cannabis oil in her carry on. I'm not spun up on what the punishment for that type of crime is in Russia but like it or not we have to accept their legal process. Is the contention that she didn't have cannabis oil in her baggage? I haven't heard anyone say that she didn't.

2. This couldn't be going on at a worse time. Russia has no motivation to negotiate with the US right now.

3. Her wife made the assertion that she was in Russia playing because the WNBA doesn't pay her enough. She makes 220k a year from the WNBA a sum of money most people can live on. A league that runs a 10 million dollar a year deficit and wouldn't even exist if not for the largess of the NBA. I'm not sure how much money a person can expect to make from a failing business venture that only continues to stay afloat due to the charity of another super lucrative business. Making 220k a year playing a game in a league that hemorrhages 10 million dollars a year seems pretty good to me.

4. Im not sure how fast everyone expected her to be returned to the US. If we use the recently released Reed as a gauge she might be in Russia for a year or more. He was held for 3 years I think, it doesnt seem reasonable to assume she would be released before her trial has concluded.

Hopefully this issue is resolved quickly and Brittany gets to come home safe to her family both immediate and her American family but it's likely going to take a year or more for that to happen.

This is so much bullshit. We should not accept their legal system. Their system is corrupt and designed to oppress not to mete out justice. We need to give Ukraine the deadliest weapons we have and we need to move forces into surrounding countries.

Should citizens of other countries be allowed just come over here and not respect our laws? Not agreeing with another country's laws isnt a pass to break them.

She was there and arrested prior to Russia invading Ukraine...

To answer why she was in Russia. Womens basketball is popular there and so the players can make more money than in the WNBA.

I figured that, but it's obvious we're at odds with Russia! Why even go there for money if this could happen? I was told she made the lion's share of the WNBA budget, so I can only assume greed involved! Call me cold, but we've been put in a terrible position where public opinion makes no difference to Russia! They couldn't GAF what we think and will use her as a political pawn that could've been avoided! Cry me a river! :itsok: :omg::rolleyes:

The babe is on record for criticizing American social and Constitutional values. It's no reason to punish her but it is a indication of how truly ignorant left wingers can be of the system that makes the U.S. the greatest Country in the world. The Bill of Rights are not universal. If you commit a crime in a foreign country you are subject to their system of justice. Most dope heads who were imprisoned in other countries learned that lesson a long time ago. My guess is that the babe will have a better time in a Russian prison than she would have had in Mexico or Central America.

Or Turkey--Midnight Express, 1978.

Holding people over a small vial of Cannabis Oil is silly no matter what Country they are in.

It is a LOT cheaper for Russia to let get her go back to America and good for some positive PR from it.

Just because you think it's silly doesnt mean Russia does.

Yeah Im sure the world is going to accept Russia and Putin back into the fold with loving arms because they released Brittany Griner.
