"It represents the whole region," he said. "People understand the storm and he doesn't have to...he's got a lot of things to do."
The mayor said he was "flattered" that Obama offered to visit, but "the thing for him to do is to go to New Jersey and represent the country."

I agree. Besides, the entire state of New Jersey bore the brunt of the storm. They've got lots of rebuilding to do, and need the help much more right now. New York City is basically in pump out mode right now, and the coastal areas are going to be busy finding temporary housing for those who lost their homes.

I'm sure after the initial clean-up, Obama and FEMA will be called in to offer some help.

President Obama requested $6.79 billion for FEMA in 2012, down slightly from the 2010 budget, which was $7.1 billion. But the administration has yet to submit a supplemental budget request to cover additional emergency costs.

Asked for clarification today, Romney spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said the GOP nominee wasn't implying he would get rid of FEMA, but rather that he simply wants states to play a greater role in disaster response.

"Gov. Romney believes that states should be in charge of emergency management in responding to storms and other natural disasters in their jurisdictions," Henneberg said. "As the first responders, states are in the best position to aid affected individuals and communities, and to direct resources and assistance to where they are needed most. This includes help from the federal government and FEMA."
