The guardian article is an opinion piece...no facts are stated...just opinion and conjecture.
Petroleum products are one of the most efficiently used natural resources around...more efficiently utilized than wood products dreamed about. Every stage of refining creates products used in the marketplace. There is no waste products from petroleum. Nothing thrown into a landfill anywhere. And often petroleum products are re-used to make other products...lengthening their use cycle. (Motor oil, tires, and plastics)

And finally... climate change is happening but the cause has yet to be determined especially since CO² emissions seem to lag and not lead climate change.

Here in North America about half of the population lives in multi family homes. (Apartments)

Now not a one of these apartments has building codes that requires them to be insulated at the same level as a single family home does.
